One day trip to Prince Edward County, Ontario

This Canada Day (July 1st 2022), we decided to do a one day trip to the beautiful Prince Edward County in Ontario. The plan was to visit most of the famous places and well known places in the this country side.

The highlight of the trip was the Lavender farm in the County.

We were able to pretty much cover most of Prince Edward County except for the places that were closed due to the national holiday or those that needed advanced reservations.

We started around 7:30 AM from Toronto and drove to meet with other friends at a place called Twelve O'Clock Point.

Twelve O'Clock PointTwelve O'Clock Point

I am not sure of the accuracy for the origin of the name, but could find the below from the internet:

"In the 1800's, the daily stagecoach that left Picton at 8:00 am reached THE
Carrying Place at noon. The stopping place became known as Twelve O'Clock Point." Source

We had a light breakfast and watched the bridge sway to let boats and sails past.

Since there were no coffee shops nearby that were open, we decided to go to Wellington for a cup of coffee and use of the loos. With the proximity to the next destination.

On the way there was a July 1st parade, but couldn't catch most of it because the parade roads were blocked. The crowd that were there to watch the parade were in joyous mood.

Next up was the key highlight of the trip - Millefleurs Lavender Farm.

The lavenders are supposed to be in peak bloom from the last week of June to mid of July, probably since we had a delayed summer the flowers are yet to reach their full bloom.

There are a couple of white benches that are in place for social media photos, and everyone enjoyed spending time with the faint aroma of Lavender in the air. There were some bees around doing their jobs.

This farm also has a shop where they sell Lavenders, Lemon Lavender Ice-cream, mead etc..

The next destination was close by, being in Wine county we decided to check out a Vineyard and Winery next - Keint-He Winery & Vineyards.

It wasn't very busy at this time with a few guests doing wine tasting and enjoying the warm weather. We took a look inside the shop for the items made at the place, as well as some wine sampling and buying some wine from there.

Next stop was supposed to the Sandbanks Provincial Park and the great beaches, but apparently entry needed to be reserved in advance. So we had to  ditch that plan and head out for some food.

After a bit of Google Maps searching and eye balling reviews, we went to "The Tambo Store", which is a cool little place with limited menu items. But it was worth it.

We travelled to "Mill Pond Park", close by to have the food and spend some time under the shade. People were barbequing and playing games in the park. They also have a tennis court nearby and a small park for kids.

Next up, we went to "Loha Farms", but it was anything like in the Google Maps entry or its reviews. The place seemed deserted except for a few goats and geese as well as some honey bee boxes. There was no guided tour or petting zoo.

Quickly moving on from there. we stopped on the way at Rutherford Stevens Lookout point to catch a glimpse of Lake Ontario from a vantage point.

The last scheduled stop for the day was the "Lake on the Mountain", which is literally a bit lake on top of a mountain. There is a Provincial Park nearby as well as a tavern.

After spending some time there, we decided to take the Ferry from Glenora Docks to Adolphustown which wasn't a great idea, although the ferry was free and we didn't have to wait for much time for it to arrive.

This was because Adolphustown is an idyllic place with not much to explore around and took us a good 40 kilometers drive to get back to the 401 highway to be on the route back to Toronto.

On the way back, we stopped for refueling and stopped at Cobourg West Beach to catch the brilliant sunset and the Canada Day Fireworks!

The fireworks started at 10:00 PM and lasted for around 20 minutes and was wonderful - I think the last time such gatherings and festivals were conducted 2 years ago, in 2019.
