For many of us, when we think of the new year, we always automatically refer to the Roman Calendar starting on January 1. We may not be fully aware that there are however so many diverse calendar systems based on different countries, ethnic groups and cultures.
This weekend, so many groups of our Local Guides friends and families will be celebrating their local religious and cultural new year, which time co-incides with the end of the Spring Equinox, some of are based of the Hindu solar calendar cycle.
The below is a summary list of New Year celebrations this weekend (it is not exhausive and if I missed some, or made some erors, please let me know and I will update it)

Hi @StephenAbraham, useful post. in Tamil, we say "Sithirai Puthandu" "தமிழ் சித்திரை புத்தாண்டு". and we are celebrating on Saturday 14th.
I'm waiting to eat more sweets on 14th 🙂

Songkran Day (13 April) is a real Thai New Year and also a national holiday. Many Thai people are coming out to celebrate and splash water to each other. 😄

@SunPanupong I have always wanted to get to Bangkok on Songkran with a big giant water gun and spray everyone.. but never made the time.. maybe next year.. 🙂
