I sure see many photos that are not helpful. Sometimes I look at a picture because I can't figure out what it is and such.

This is very true and a problem growing at an increasing rate. Some places now have literally hundreds of photos associated with them many of which are fairly useless if not downright unhelpful. It serves no purpose for most map users to be presented with so many images and drowns out the good photos. The process to removing poor photos is slow, laborious and often unsuccessful. I've mentioned this to Google but it seems they have no appetite to address the issue.

Can someone please prove me wrong and help me feel helpful and not that I am being taken advantage of so I can continue taking helpful pics and posting real reviews? Or is everyone in this for numbers only?

Perhaps a deep evaluation of altruism is beyond the scope of this thread. For sure Google is taking way more from this than they are giving back to any individual Local Guide. If someone feels they're being taken advantage of then they might consider that their efforts will make a better map for everybody and in the end an edit someone else makes may help them? Ultimately though if the feeling persists, one answer is to stop contributing.

I'm sorry but this article did not really help. It just described how to get tons and tons of views and points.

Personally I agree. I don't find leaderboards etc helpful, I think they encourage LGs to map for the wrong reasons and lead to quantity over quality. Rather than feeling they have to add/review/photograph everything they come across, it would be better for LGs to do a little bit here and there when something particularly strikes them. That way, like helping an old lady to cross the road, you're unlikely to feel taken advantage of.

Re: Number of views

Every time I want to read feedback or post something in the community, I have to log in. It's becoming inconvenient, I wish there was a Touch ID option. Anyway, I just wanted to say that since I started this thread yesterday, my total number of views and points remained the same. However, the number of views for individual pictures keeps going up. I hope this is a coincidence.

If you're logged out and then click your photo icon in the top right corner, does it log you back in automatically? It does for me but I use a Chromebook so I'm always logged into my Google account

Re: Number of views

Right after I posted this, the total number of views got updated and went up by over 1,500. So I guess everything is good now.

Re: Number of views

Helping others isn't about the rewards. The real reward is the change that we help Google have on our community & our  lives.

Hi, I am a fairly new local guide. I take good and relevant pics and I already have ~13,000 views. Shouldn't there be rewards for lots of views too, to keep people motivated to continue? Right now I am still loving the aspect of helping others. At the same time, I do perform a lot of free work. Any feedback? Thanks! Nicoleta

I am pretty confident I do a good job helping others, in many other ways than through google. Your answer had not much to do with my questions.

We all want rewards?

I take a more charitable view.

Re: Number of views

I believe giving extra rewards to the contributions that gets the most views rests on a false premise.

A contribution that gets the most views isn't always the contribution that is worth the most to the people living in and visiting your community .

For example:

I added a contribution for a previously unrecorded dentist, the only dentist in my area who provides a specialised service for people with mixtures of challenging behaviour / learning difficulties / mental illness.

I added a contribution for a previously recorded, one of many previously recorded in my area store selling pots and pans.

The pots and pans store contribution gets many more views than than the dentist. The dentist contribution is far more valuable to the community than the dentist contribution.

I don't do it for points. I think you are saying you don't either. I do it to help others. Rewarding with points can make things worse instead of better. On the other hand I agree and understand that it would help to get recognition. The most important reward I want is greater trust for the edits and other improvements I make and other rewards can be more access to tools to do things.

Yes, Level 3 (50 points) to Level 4 (200) points is steep but Level 4 to Level 5 (500 points) is a bigger climb.

Hi @SamuelCalifornia

Yes, point-wise (i.e., Required Points to Reach Next Level), Level 4 to 5 is the toughest one but percentage-wise (i.e., Required Points/Points in Previous Level (%)) Level 4 to 5 is the simplest one! Because you need only 250% increase from your past level (Level 4). The toughest one is Level 2 to 3 (you need to increase 1000% to reach from 2 to 3).

Please see below table.
