The redesigned Explore tab that will launch on Google Maps.Every year, Google hosts a conference called I/O where developers from around the world preview our upcoming launches. It’s happening now, and you can check out the Keyword blog to read about some of the coolest updates coming to Google Maps. It offers a sneak peek of some new features that will help you discover the best places near you. Look closely at the redesigned Explore tab, and you may spot the Google Local Guides badge!

That’s because our editorial team has been creating lists for this upcoming launch as part of our ongoing mission to showcase the power of this community. You can already find editorial lists and tips in Google Earth Voyager and across our social channels. We make these lists with help from millions of reviews shared by Local Guides like you. How? We choose fun themes and select places by considering things like star ratings, reviews, and other contributions from the community.

Use the comments here to tell us what lists you'd like to see for places in your city, and keep sharing your own great lists. Keep in mind these tips and add #LocalGuides to your list descriptions so we can find and feature them on social.

Looking good, I love that the UI has such a fresh look while maintaining its simple to use functionality. The match function will be fun to use and im sure it will come in handy.

It would be really very helpful and overdue to have lists that show:

• Kid friendly activities list (playgrounds, free educational or fun activities, museums, free or very low cost)

• Family friendly POIs list, restaurants, hotel (safety, diaper change rooms, activities etc) So parents can enjoy their stay while children are occupied and safe. That is good for businesses as well because it will give them a USP and motivate stores, restaurants etc. to introduce or upgrade those facilities with family friendly equipment to be better represented in Google maps and attract more customers.

Huge free Indoor playground. Kids play while parents can have a latte and watch them.Terminal II Frankfurt airport.

• and at least in Germany there are many locations (public recycling containers list) where you can drop of recycling materials such as glass, cloths, batteries. We are missing a category for that. It helps save the envirroment by keeping people from littering.

Since I travel to new cities often, I am very eager for this update. It is like a smart itinerary! 

Those lists on Voyager truly meet my needs between bike path's hiking trails and restaurants. I would like to see something like best pub crawls and scavenger hunts. Many Cities offer scavenger hunts to take iconic photos, historic places or even TV/Movie themed. I'd love to have this mapped out for me when I go to a City.

I would like to find places where people can find good tools, serviçes, free park, best trails for bikes and friendly for people with disabilities, good supermarkets. What thing could happen to is about a place where are hiring people, temporally or permanent, for big or small jobs, simple or hard, this way everyone who is looking for things like this could get help.  #LocalGuides

Hello @AlexVee, what about creating lists that can accompany you in an original way when making a city walk: each item on the list is a song that is linked in some or other way to something you see along the walk. You could then make a Spotify playlist of those songs, and if you make sure the songs listed refer to places that are a few minutes' walk from each other, you end up with a nice city walk + soundtrack combination.

The new AR layer for maps shown at I/O would be a great addition to this!

Here is a specific example:

1. just to start the walk: Get the Party Started (Pink)
2. there is a station where shared bikes are stalled: The Bike Song (Mark Ronson)
3. a building painted in a flashy red colour: Red Alert (Basement Jaxx)
4. newspaper stand (taking into account newspapers typically contain yesterday's news): Yesterday (The Beatles)
5. the city park: Parklife (Blur)
6. a restaurant with an all you can eat promo: Just Can't Get Enough (Depeche Mode)
7. a renovation that has just started: The Deconstruction (Eels)
8. the local police station: I Love a man in Uniform (Gang of Four)
9. juweler store with a ring on display that has a big red stone in it: Ruby (Kaiser Chiefs)
10. a very nice front garden: Green Garden (Laura Mvula)

@AlexVee, This is a good idea. Because the people who live in their city, know about correctly what kind of things need to be update or include the Google map. Then we can add or develop new things about our city properly. It helps to other people in direct way. I also think few things under this matter.

• Land marks ( In Sri Lanka we can see land marks like Clock towers, Bhoo tress, religious status, person status. Ex :At Maharagama Bhoo tree )
• Categories the different sectors like ;Government & private health centers ( In here we can make a list of two different categories. Ex : At Maharagama : Government Dental clinic, Asia hospital (Pvt)
• Educational centers ( Private classes we can include with biograph of teachers , contact numbers, recent results,.more things. These things make professional educational back ground )

Oh lovely...I actually love the ATMs tab. Actually about a year or two, i wanted to review ATMs and so I went and took couple pictures of a new ATM post that was just mounted, now seeing it under the Explore tab like a speed dial icon, just makes quest easy.

Well them moving forword, i think it will be great to add places like hospitals, schools, hotels to the Explore tab... Cheers. #LocalGuides

The voting option is a brilliant idea, now extend it, allow the group leader to send a meet up address and have it automatically updated on the recipients map making it simple to find your way to the place where every one else is meeting.

The group leader could also add a "follow me" if for instance the bar they chose was too busy and they decided to go next door.

I just love the recycling idea as well. What about a list for charity shops showing what kind of goods they will accept and allowing users to comment on how well their offerings were recieved?

That could also work for someone wishing to purchase from a charity shop, listings such as furniture or books could help define the good ones to visit for your particular needs.

Garbage.
The map is not updated for 4 years.
Addresses are outdated.

The roads are outdated.
Urgency of buildings and other places is outdated.
There are regions where the addition of new places is always AUTOMATICALLY received "denied".
And you all continue to draw pictures ....

I think that a good idea could be to have the possibility to look for and find events in a place such as (for instance) "Munich Beerfest" or "Rio de Janeiro Carnival" by themselves and get detailed information of dates and festivities, etc.,.......at least for most important events in the world.....

As Atlanta residence and avid outdoors people we were shocked to find out how many amazing local hikes there are. Maybe an outdoor explorer list could be fun with hikes and other outdoor activities.

Wow! It is going to be cool, but I guess the new update will favour mainly restaurants and shopping centers more than other places on google maps. From what I read from the blog specifically, it is more of places where individuals can get together and have some fun.
