2 years ago when I moved to Alabama, I had no clue how life will be here. Coming from Texas, I wasn’t expecting a big difference in culture, little did I know that I was wrong. First few weeks were tough, not knowing people, the area, culture and a lot of things that you’re used to in life, but little by little I started exploring the city on foot with the help from Google.
You will feel homesick when nothing looks familiar but I discovered that based on places I had liked on Google Maps before it could give me suggestions and show how much it matches my favorite places. Some were accurate, some were not, however when I finally did find a place that gave me the same familiar feeling for example a cafe with friendly environment and a couch that you can lie on while doing your homework, it started to feel like home again.
Other people helped me by adding their stories, photos, and reviews on Google and now I feel like I am responsible to give back to them or other people who might be away from their family for the first time and maybe make their life a little easier by showing them around and letting them know that they’re not alone and what amazing places are waiting for them out there

Thanks for sharing your story @icarus_18 . Where did you move from?
I’ve moved many times in my life, in my own country and have also lived in three foreign countries. Yes Google maps does make things easier.
Keep up your Google Mapping.

@icarus_18 i feel the same way before. I felt somewhat lost and alone for a while not until I met Google Maps. It has been the only one constant in my life wherever I go. Definitely, we are never alone anymore
