Women Owned Businesses in Manchester #mapsforall

At EuroMeetup last year in Manchester, UK, myself and @PeteMHW organised a visit to the Manchester Craft and Design Centre as we wanted to showcase the amazing and talented local artists (they call themselves makers) who are also small business owners!

So, not only do they have to juggle time spent making their crafts, they also needed to run, manage and grow their business! And a lot of them also run workshops, classes and travel to different cities to promote their work! Hats off to them!!

During the visit, we had split up into two groups to visit two sets of makers (3 makers per group, 15 minutes per maker). This was a great opportunity to learn more about the different crafts each maker specialised in, the history and passion that they bring to their craft and to also take photos/videos to add to Google Maps.

All the makers that we visited were women and they were eager to share their crafts, their experiences/history of getting into their crafts and the challenges they faced as business owners.

The 6 makers are:

Bhaggie of Imprints of Earth (ceramics)

Nicky of Cragg Jones Clay (ceramics)

Andrea of &Made (textile)

Valery and Olive of Vale et Oli (textile)

Stacey of Stacey Hill (jewellery)

Ella of Ella McIntosh (pewter)

You can view more photos of our visit there in this album.

We were truly inspired by our visit there and we hope that they enjoyed having our company as well! And I hope that you have enjoyed this little post about our visit to supporting local women owned businesses! This post is part of the challenge created by @Globe_trotter_Ish in raising awareness and support! You can find out more about this challenge and her overall campaign here.

Thanks for this wonderful post, @AdrianLunsong ! It was amazing meet-up!
The Manchester Craft & Design Centre is such a special place, where we can talk to the artists, buy unique things, and even join workshops to try making something yourself. And indeed, so many creative businesses are led by women!

I wish I have a place like this where I live, I’d definitely be there often!
