Why my travels become food experiences and why I love sharing them on Google Maps

It’s a fact, I love to travel. I have visited quite a few countries in my lifetime, some of which are China, Canada, Greece, the United Kingdom, France and Portugal. Apart from travelling to countries and places I’ve never visited before, I also love to feel the culture of each country I visit through food.

I am a great believer that you can experience the culture of the country or the city through the food. As the book Food is Culture by Massimo Montanari states in a nutshell, is that everything, the capture, preparation and consumption of the food, are all cultural acts. Having travelled quite a few times and sometimes to the same cities, I always try to visit different restaurants, in order to taste as many flavours as possible from that city or country.

Even if I am not travelling, I am going out so that I can try food from different places in my city. A Sunday brunch is always in my schedule so that I can spend some time with friends but also, try brunch in different places in my city.

Most people eat an average of three meals per day. As a food lover myself, I never miss a meal and I try for it to be special whether I am the one cooking or visiting a restaurant, no matter where I am in this planet. And as I have benefited many times from the reviews on Google Maps from things that other people have contributed, I feel like it’s a great way for me to share my love - or hate sometimes - about the food I’ve tried in the places I’ve visited. This allows other people searching for the best places to have a variety of opinions that can shape their decision of visiting a restaurant or not. I also love the fact that I can add a food description to the photos I post so that people can see what they can order before they actually order it.

Not only can people benefit from my personal food experiences, but I can also keep track of the amazing food I’ve tried around the world. At the end of the day you may not remember the name of the street you’ve walked by, but you will definitely remember the best meals and tastes you’ve had in each country. It happened to me multiple times to have a conversation with friends, talking about amazing restaurants I’ve visited in the world that they may be planning in visiting and I was extremely happy to show them pictures and recommended them to check - amongst others - my reviews on Google Maps for photos and details on the experience.

Thank you Google Maps for allowing me to help others and thank you for allowing me to keep track of the places I’ve visited!

Below you will find pictures along with descriptions on my favourite food in the different locations I’ve visited.
