the problem only started a few days ago and i thought it was my wifi problem. but after a few days the problem is still there even after i delete and redownload google map.
for more info, I am a level 7 local guide with 1215 contributions, and i am not suspended
Also, anyone knows how to contact google map tech support team?
Thank you very much for your kind help!!! Have a nice day!
@astraeus Can you check if there’s an update for the Google Maps app? If yes, go ahead and update it. If you’re on Android, try clearing cache and storage of the app, force stop, then restart the app. See what happens after that.
There’s no tech support line for Google Maps. If you have technicall issues you can ask in their help forum below
thanks for the reply! I am on IOS and i am currently using the latest version of Google Map! Hopefully it is a bug that can be fixed in the next few rounds of update.
I have just posted the question on the help forum as well.
@astraeus in iOS, try to close the app from the drawer. I’m not sure which iPhone you’re using, but in my 12 Pro, I swipe down from the bottom to reveal all the apps, swipe left/ right until I see Google Maps, then swipe up on the app. Then try opening the app again and see if you’re seeing the data.
Thanks for the reply! Sadly the glitz is still there after probably a week (i just checked again)
Also can i ask what do you mean by “unpublished reviews and photos” ? I dont think i have removed any pics or reviews myself, are they removed by google map or? Also how can i look into them?
It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.
Google has automatic filters that hide your reviews so only you can see them. This can happen when some of your reviews violate the review guidelines.
Read about typical review guideline violations here. And please see my latest post called 4 Tips on writing better reviews. And this post by ErmesT explains in more details why Google is hiding reviews.
Sorry I was not aware of the tagging norm as I am pretty new to the Connect forum : (
Thank you so much for the detailed hearty guide on how to check the amount of hidden reviews and pictures. Unfortunately almost one third of my pictures (629/974 available) AND (98/132 available) reviews have been hidden/made private…
As I go through your lists of common violations, I think a possible reason is I copy-pasted from wikipedia a few times… or i like my own reviews???
But thank you so much for the guide, it has really been a great help!!!
Do I have to edit all the potentially problematic reviews and remove all potentially problematic pics? Or can I just post ok reviews and pics from now on and the “shadow banning” would be automatically lifted one day?
Thank you again for the great help! Have a good day!!!
Please replace all Wikipedia texts with your own writing or delete such reviews.
I’m afraid it will be best also to dig deeper and try to figure out what causes your pics to be hidden. Read the guidelines and the typical photo violations with an open mind.
OMG i just deleted all those reviews with suspicious “0 viewership” and now the rate is like 98/118, and just now the contribution viewership came back again!!!
Its definitely related to those hidden reviews that somehow violated the rules!
I’m glad to hear that you are making progress. But keep in mind that not all these contribution stats are updated in real-time. Some of them get updated only once or twice per week. Some even more rarely. So give it a few days before you draw final conclusions.
