Why I'm passionate about being a Google Guide

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s common knowledge that to thrive and succeed, you can’t make all of the mistakes and learn, you gotta learn from others’ mistakes.

Being a Google Local Guide. It all starts with the urge to help others out! To help others make a better decision. So, they don’t go through making the same bad choices somebody else made! To help in making the world a better place!! And making it easier to navigate.

By nature, someone who likes to help others selflessly will find becoming a Google Local Guide exciting and rewarding. Let’s say, I’m going through some road and find a roadblock ahead. I have no way to go ahead but to change my way and head back. So in the meantime, my friend who is driving the car reverses it, I check the place on Google Maps and find that there’s no roadblock indicated. So, I edit it and put one there, after some approval it goes live! So the next time someone is going that way and happens to be using Google Maps for Navigation, his/her precious time and resources are saved.

Another example could be updating the traffic situation in an area you happen to pass through if it’s either considerably slower or faster than as indicated on Google Maps.

Or maybe adding a new place to Google Maps! Small businesses can get a good amount of boost by being on the Maps. After all, it’s the Generation Z . People prefer places with good reviews, even if they’re relatively new. Small businesses can leverage that advantage.

One of the easiest things to contribute is by answering questions related to a place you’ve visited or you know quite well. Like whether a particular convenience store provides you the item you need or a mall has wheelchair accessible parking/entrance, lodging area, etc. Whether that restaurant serves you Continental or Chinese! Whether that theatre nearby will stream your favorite show?

Whether a place is open on weekends and/or what are the timings.

What kind of reviews the hotel you’re planning to stay in, has?

What are the famous attractions in your area?

Not just answering questions but asking them is another way of contributing!

There are countless examples like these, in which you can help that unknown stranger make the right choice.

But the question is, do you want to?

It’s very exciting to be a local guide. But don’t take my word for it. Try it yourself!
