Why can i not post pictures any more?

Hello,

i am in Level 8 with >10.000 pictures. Since some weeks alle pictures get a warning sign and are not uses/visible.

There is nor real info why not, when clicking zjhe icon there appears a link
https ://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/7422880?hl=de&dark=0

but not the real reason.
I happens for all pictures like food, buildings landscape…
Is there something changed for pictures?

Thx

What phone mark and model are you using?

Hello @Yesingen welcome at the Local Guides Connect community.

By any chance, are you using a Galaxy smartphone, which has been updated before your problems started? If so, verify the version of your camera app. If it is Galaxy Camera 16.0.00.63, have look at this thread: Cannot upload images to reviews - #6 by WilfriedB . One solution is to delete one or more photos from Maps, slightly crop the original and upload again. The other discussion thread has some more options.

Samsung Galaxy A56

Please see my response above @Yesingen. Very likely, it applies to you too.

Hi Wilfried
yes, it is this version here too. I alreaedy tried to crop the images but this makes no difference. For crop i pressed the edit-icon and made the image smaller be moving the borders. Then i pressed “save as copy” and uploaded the copy.
Do you also mean this with “crop”?
I will now give it a try with the “Open Camera”.

@WilfriedB

1.The tip with the OpenCamera-App seems to be the solution for me.
Same picture from just now one with OpenCamera (Accepted immidiately) and the other with normal Camera-App (not working).

2.Also copying a not accepted image from smartphone to Windows11-computer and re-saving it with Irfanview (without any changes) and reupload in Windows-Webrowser is accepted.

Thx

We used cropping only to makes sure another application reads the image file and writes it back to storage. I did that all under Windows with GIMP, Picasa and DigiKam. Possibly, if you do that on the same smartphone, the function saving it, makes the same mistake as the camera app.

If you have access to a PC with Windows, the solution my approach with ExifTool by Phil Harvey is much faster and does it within seconds.

Only now that I saw, you were successful with Irfanview @Yesingen. I didn’t think about that one, when I tried multiple editors.

Thanks for confirming that @Yesingen. I’ve installed that camera as an alternative, but haven’t had opportunity to test this yet.

Good news this morning @tony_b, @Yesingen, @MortenCopenhagen and others:

My Smartphone was updated this morning. Still Android 16 but Firmware BP2A.250605.031.A3.S721BXXSACZB2 and One UI-Version 8.0.

The camera app is also still on version 16.0.00.63, but I did post one test photo and it did get accepted right away. If you had photos made by Galaxy being hidden, please try again after the firmware update.

Important news. Thanks for sharing.

@WilfriedB i can confirm this. I also had an update on my “Galaxy A56 5G” to
Buildnummer BP2A.250605.031.A3.A566BXXS9BZB6

The camera app also still on 16.0.00.63

but also here a new image is accepted immediately at maps.

Thank you for the feedback @Yesingen!

Do you still have some of those hidden photos? There was one comment, they became public without uploading again.

@WilfriedB Thx for the info but i have always deleted all “not working” pictures the next day.

So did I @Yesingen

That’s really quick. I don’t usually see my photos get views immediately, so it only becomes a concern after a full week passes and I see no views. In the present scenario, it covers a 2-month period from the beginning of January, but I still haven’t deleted them.

This works quickly when posting photos made within the EU. In that case, they are immediately marked with triangle. This was also the reason, why I was suspicious right away, since it never happened before that all 10 photos posted to different pins were rejected immediately.

For users taking photos in the rest of the world, I can only recommend not only to check My Contributions and see if all new photos appear at least under By You, if not under Newest, but also to share links with an incognito browser session. It certain needs some more minutes, but IMHO better than waiting days or weeks.

But again, here is lots of “room for improvements” for Google to support local guides, besides the fact they certainly knew much more details but never told us.

Checking, and it appears that they all appear under By You. So they should be getting views. At one specific POI, under All shows only 3 photos (not including mine), yet my photo is listed under By You. But it doesn’t appear in Incognito mode.

“Listed under By You” surprises me, but confirms checking in incognito mode is important. This is ultimate indication, nobody but yourself can see it.
