Why are my road name changes not getting approved?

Hello Local Guides and Google Maps Team,
I am a Level 7 Local Guide, and I have actively contributed to Google Maps for several years. I have successfully added and edited many locations, roads, and routes. However, recently, I have faced issues when trying to rename roads and highways—they either get rejected or remain pending for a long time.
I would like to understand:
Who reviews and approves road name changes? Is it Google staff, Local Guides, or another authority?
Why do some road name edits get rejected? Even when they are correct and supported by official road signs.
How can I improve my chances of approval? Should I provide additional evidence or get support from higher-level Local Guides?
Also, is there any way to connect with Local Guides who have experience in road mapping? I would love to collaborate and understand how to make better contributions.
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Đúng vậy, rất nhiều người phản ánh về việc đổi tên đường, rất khó được chấp nhận . Tôi cũng không muốn đề xuất nữa mặc dù biết những đường bị sai tên

A new highway has been constructed, but on Google Maps, it still shows as the old two-way road. I have tried to map it several times, but it still does not appear as a highway. What should I do to get this update approved?

For naming roads, local guides have much less “power” compared to editing places. Usually the source of information there are local authorities, especially for things like highways.

Hello @keyankahtoo, it is a lot easier to draw roads than to name roads.

I’m tagging three persons here who have a wealth of knowledge about roads - @ErmesT @MarcoDavoli @SholaIB

Hope they’ll respond with some insights.

Thank you for the tag, @tony_b , and sorry for the late reply, @keyankahtoo
There are several reasons why road names are usually

  1. Like @JanVanHaver said
  1. Road name is a low priority edit, compared with road additions. The reason is that the first priority is navigation (having a road) it doesn’t really matter if the road has a name.

The best option for having a name fixed is to use the link suggested by @Kumaarsantosh : https://support.google.com/maps/thread/new describing the issue and adding as an evidence an official cartography, publicly accessible, issued by the Local Authorities
In this way the Product Experts will be able to raise the issue to the team.
Any other way is useless. I have seen a lot of people, also here in Connect, who tried to add a road name by simply indicating “Road from A to B” because “this is how most of the road are named in my country”.
It doesn’t work this way.

This doesn’t work either. Roads are a very sensitive subject, and the approval is not based on “trust on the user” nor on Level. Every single road is analyzed and approved only if it’s clearly visible, and Google are sourcing the info independently.
