Where Did "Ask Maps" Go? How a Quick App Update Brought It Back

My experience today…

Last Saturday, I updated Google Maps and had access to the Ask Maps feature.

However, today I noticed that Ask Maps had completely disappeared (as shown in the 1st image).

When I checked the app store, I realized another update was available for Google Maps (2nd image).

After updating successfully and reopening the app, the Ask Maps feature returned (3rd image).

Note: If you run into the same issue, check for available updates and update Google Maps. Keep in mind that feature availability after an update may still depend on several factors:

* Your current region/country

* Account-level feature eligibility

* Phone model and hardware specifications

* Operating system (OS) version

Could “Smart Features” being disabled affect the Ask Maps feature?

Yes! Because Ask Maps relies on AI and account-level personalization, turning off Smart Features in your settings can disable or hide the feature entirely.

I noticed @SophatCHY and @SengPheng (and likely others on the team) are running into the issue where Ask Maps suddenly disappeared from Google Maps

Thank Bong Veasna for issues raising, now I knew the reason why I cannot access to the Ask Maps feature, based on I don’t use smart features like the screenshot below. So I can’t use on Google maps.

Thanks for sharing this experience @ViasnaPhon :raising_hands: This is really useful, especially for those who suddenly find the Ask Maps feature missing after an update.

I’ll definitely keep this in mind if I encounter the same issue. It’s also interesting to know that Smart Features and account-level eligibility may affect whether Ask Maps appears.

Hopefully Google can make the availability of this feature more consistent across different regions, devices, and accounts. Great troubleshooting tip! :+1::world_map:
