What is behind my map?

Hi guys,

I hope you are well.

This post follows the one I posted last year A bit of me in this world.

You remember, I mentioned my life as a Local Guide and how I grew up with the program.

Since then, life has changed enormously … Participating to Local Guides Connect 2018 simply changed my life. I had the chance to meet great people, to learn new skills and to identify new opportunities.

I still can’t believe it!

As you know, the possibilities to contribute to Google Maps are multiple:

  • Take and post nice pictures,

  • Share our experience through reviews,

  • Edit informations,

However, each Local Guide is unique as he contributes in his own way and at his own pace.

Today, I will tell you a little more about me.

As far as I’m concerned, I write reviews (430), I post photos (9900) and I am very active in making edits (7800).

As we say here, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are some of my edits:

Interesting? Isn’t?

Let’s try to understand why I like to make Google Maps accurate.

Many years ago, when I was young ?, my mother often called me when she was looking for something or when she had lost something.

For me, it was like a game. I conducted my investigations, I searched, I studied and I tried to understand. When did she use this object last time? Where could she put it? How did it fall? Etc …

It amused me, so I put goodwill in it and I usually found it quickly.

At that time, I also enjoyed looking for four leaf clovers. In France, they are quite rare and people say it gives luck!

Very often, I sat in the grass and looked for these famous clovers. There were not many, but I found some regularly.

Whenever I found one, I had great satisfaction. But what I liked most was to offer them.

In a way, I offered happiness and luck. People appreciated receiving them and I was delighted.

Do you link this story to Google Maps and Local Guide?

Usually, when we search for information, we call our friend Google and generally we find our happiness.

But did you ever go to a shop and found it closed? Or to search for a place and it was not listed? Or just to call a shop and the phone number was no longer relevant?

It probably happened to you already.

If you had the opportunity to call another friend, like in the game “who wants to be a millionaire”, would you go for it? Certainly!

Today, when I have some free time, I like to go through Google Maps. Not looking for four leaf clovers or lost items but looking for mistakes, inappropriate informations and particulary for missing places.

Once identified, I modify or add the missing information. I feel actively involved in the reliability of the information on Google Maps and I love it.

As I mentioned, it’s a bit like in the game “Who wants to be a millionaire”, I feel like the person who helps to find the right answer.

There may not be millions to win but it is a real satisfaction because I know it will help others to find more easily the information (location, schedules, phone number or website) and Google Maps will be more accurate.

So, I hope you have enjoyed learning a bit more about me and that we will have the opportunity to share tips at LGCL2019.

See you around!
