My name is Jaya, I am a Taiwanese living in Keelung. I am a vegetarian, food lover, and a fitness trainer who work in a bouldering gym currently.
I love learning new things and challenge new challenges. I’ve worked in the Philippines for three years. Two years as a manager in a language school and a year as a tour guide in Palawan Coron. Exploring new field, knowing new concept take a big part in my life.
I knew Local Guide program probably around two years ago. A friend told me how convenient google map works. But I don’t really clearly know about how it works until I found that I received an email on March 3rd 2020 that I was qualified to apply for Connect Live 2020 Google Park in California Bay. I was very excited and try to search more information about what is it about this event…
Since I started to post photos and use other ways to contribute on google map after I visited a place, I found that I can see viewers and I started to receive email from google local guides about my contribution monthly. It seems interesting but at the beginning I still couldn’t aware much. I just post things when I see somethings which is new for me, this habit just like finding something to do to kill time. But day by day, I was amazed by that all map users can contribute on the map and some of my photos got quite amount of views, I started to feel it brings kind of sense of accomplishment to me.
A bit shy to admit that I have really low sense of direction(navigationally challenged people), I can even get lost in a place which is very close to my home (even just less than 1 kilometers far)
Hence, I really rely on google map when I plan to go somewhere unfamiliar to me (some are not new for me, but I can’t remember whether I’ve been there or not lol). When I check on the map to see the real scene photos which uplods from other local guides, it does help me to withdraw my memory. The situation what I encounter quite often is that some places has just really few photos and from long time ago. Or sometimes the place have no any photo being uploaded yet. When I know that there is a new place which haven’t show yet on google map, I got a new mission to do(to kill time but brings positive impact for map users). The more I use local guide program, the more efficient I can optimise google map.
As a food lover, a traveler and a enthusiastic learner, the habit of sharing on local guide program does bring more happiness to my life…
For me, local guide program is a very practical way to let all of us explore the world. We can make our life easier by our simple action. We all can be a local guide. I really appreciate and feel its a honer to use and contribute in google map. Being helped and help others. What a positive cycle!
