for a fun-filled, four day weekend retreat: June 4th-7th as local guides gather from across the nation and from overseas.
I am personally looking forward to the swag each registered member will be given and I cannot wait to add a new Key West button to my backpack or USA local guides sticker to my tumbler. Don’t get me started on the excitement of the t-shirts and other goodies that are coming! But we all know, that is not really why we attend or host these meet-ups. It is not just about what you can get out of an event or even what you’re able to bring, but rather what difference people can make when they come together. With that said, I am even more exuberant about regrouping with everyone– it will have been just over a year since our farewells at ConnectLIVE: New York City. It is also thrilling to know there will be new faces in attendance. The more the merrier, and we are welcoming everyone to join with us on our adventures.
From taking photos at the Southernmost Point Buoy to visiting the The Hemingway Home and Museum, and actually getting to see a cat with 6 toes (maybe even pet the polydactyl felines), I know there will be fun to be had by everyone across the island. Walking down the infamous Duval Street, or visiting the Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum, and ending the days out watching the sunset on the ocean from Mallory Square, will be like a dream-come-true experience. Key West is sure to have a little bit of everything, and I am planning on having a whole lot of fun doing all of the things!!!
To add in a little scoop or preview for what else is to come, we are discussing having a beach cleanup day. It is always good to leave a place looking better than when you first arrived. As Local Guides, we should be the forerunners in being a leading example of minimizing waste production, even when traveling. It is especially impactful when large groups commence, and stand to say, “Hey, I want to help,” or, “I want to make a difference,” where in the world you are. This will provide that chance for environmental conservation and in fostering positive community stewardship of natural resources. Stay tuned for more info to come regarding sustainability!
Overall, there will be plenty of time to party and have a great island time vacation, but let’s also leave room to make a difference and show others the true Local Guide spirit of helping make a difference, not just on the map but in REAL LIVE TIME!
