Urgent: Duplicate and Incorrect Location Fix for "Lovers Corner" in Labuduwa Galle sri lanka

Hello Google Maps Team,

I am a Local Guide Level 5. I recently added a new shop named “Lovers Corner” at the correct location (Address: No.35, Shopping Complex, Labuduwa, Galle 80000). The place creation edit was already approved.

However, there is an old, incorrect profile for “Lovers Corner” located a few meters away (Plus Code: 36CM+8F7, Road, Galle 80000) which is currently marked as “Permanently Closed”. My uploaded photos are stuck on this old profile, and it shows “Posting is currently turned off”.

Due to conflicting edits, the system is glitched. Please manually MERGE the old closed profile into my newly approved correct profile so that the photos move to the right place and the duplicate is removed.

Thank you, Dinush Gayantha Ranaweera

Did you try merging them yourself?

Tips are here.

Is the new business really new or did it just move?

Hi Morten,

Thank you so much for the quick response!

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes, I tried to suggest a “Moved” edit on the old profile, and it shows as “Accepted” in my contributions. However, the old profile is still stuck at the wrong place as “Permanently Closed” and “Posting is currently turned off”.

  2. The business is not brand new; it just moved to this new location.

Because I already created a new place for the correct location (which was also accepted), now there are two approved markers on the map, but the photos and history are stuck on the old closed profile.

Could you please help to merge them so the history and photos move to the new active location?

Thanks again!

Did you try merging them following the tips I shared?

Also, please share the two Maps links.

Hi Morten,

Thank you for following up.

I reviewed the tips you shared. However, since the old profile is already marked as “Permanently Closed” and displays “Posting is currently turned off”, any automated duplicate or merge edits I try to suggest through the standard Maps interface usually get instantly rejected or frozen by the system due to the restriction on the profile.

Because the automated options are restricted on this specific closed listing, could you please look into it or escalate it so it can be merged manually?

I appreciate your guidance on this!

As far as I know there is always an operator checking merge suggestions. So you can suggest the merge from the new pin.

I’m trying to help you fix this.

If you need a Google to try to fix this you will still need to try yourself first.

The shortest way to get a Googler to look into this is making s post on the Google Maps Help Community.

Don’t forget to include the two Maps link.

Hi Morten,

Here are the links to the two business profiles on Google Maps:

1. Old/Incorrect Profile (Permanently Closed & Restricted):

A listing in Google Search is not a Maps listing. That is why you cannot merge them. And they should not be merged.

Is there a pin for the old address on Maps?

In your screenshot it seems like you successfully moved a pin.

Please know it can take a long time before this will show on Google Maps. Please wait at least a week. 2 wweks is better and make sure to clear cache before you check.

Hi Morten,

Thank you for clarifying that distinction.

To answer your question: Yes, there is a pin for the old address on Maps, but it is currently marked as Permanently Closed.

Here are the exact locations for both the old and new spots so you can see the issue:

  • Old Pin Location (Permanently Closed): Plus Code: 36CM+8F7, Road, Galle 80000 (This is the one where my photos are currently stuck and shows “Posting is currently turned off”).

  • New Pin Location (Correct Place): Coordinates: 6.070757181605621, 80.23313326334952 (This is where the business actually is right now).

Since the old profile is restricted, what would be the best way to get my uploaded photos moved from that old closed pin over to the correct physical location?

“Thank you, Morten! I will wait for a week as you suggested and check back after clearing the cache. I appreciate your help in guiding me through this!”

Thank you for your continued help!

This is how a Maps link looks like:

The above is the old pin. You get this by hitting the share icon.

Please do the same for the new place.

Without the Maps link it is very difficult to help you.
