Update Currency Issue : Google Maps Price Range in Cambodia – Now Showing USD

Following up on my previous post about the price range currency issue in Cambodia, I’d like to share a positive update.

In my last post, I highlighted that Google Maps showed price ranges in Cambodian Riel (៛), but the values were not aligned with real usage. For example, ranges like 0៛–5៛ or 5៛–15៛ equal only $0.001–$0.006, which is not realistic for cafés or restaurants in Cambodia and caused confusion for users and tourists.

:pushpin: Previous post for context:

Google Maps Price Range in Cambodia – Currency Issue

:white_check_mark: Now, I’ve noticed an improvement:
The price range is shown in USD ($), which better reflects how prices are commonly displayed and understood in Cambodia (e.g. $5–10, $10–15 per person).

This change makes the feature:

  • More accurate
  • Easier to understand for locals and visitors
  • More meaningful when users vote on price ranges

Thank you to the team for this improvement. It’s great to see how community feedback can help make Google Maps more useful for everyone.

Happy mapping from Cambodia :cambodia:
