I want to share an observation from using Google Maps in Cambodia. This is for information and improvement, not a complaint.
In Cambodia, the official currency shown on Google Maps is Cambodian Riel (៛).
However, the price range feature is not aligned with real currency value.
Example:
- In reality: 1 USD ≈ 4,000៛
- But on Google Maps, the price range shows:
- 0៛ – 5៛
- 5៛ – 15៛
- 15៛ – 25៛
This equals only $0.001 – $0.006, which is not realistic for cafés or restaurants.
What this causes:
- Confusion for users and tourists
- Wrong expectation about prices
- Price range becomes meaningless in Cambodia
Suggestion:
- Google Maps should:
- Adjust price ranges to realistic Riel values (e.g. 10,000៛ – 40,000៛), or
- Allow USD display in Cambodia (since USD is widely used), or
- Auto-convert correctly when users vote on the price range
A price range is a helpful feature, but only when the currency logic aligns with local reality.
I hope this can be noticed and improved for Cambodia and other countries with similar currency usage.
