The origin and evolution of bread goes along Humanity History since the Neolithic. Today, bread is the most popular food in the world, being produced in almost every society. With different shapes, cooked in different ways and with varied cereals. Is present in both traditional dishes and fast food chains! It was also the bread that led through incredible creativity, to the appearance of cakes and delicious flavours.
In Portugal there is always bread on the table and practically at all meals. The variety is huge and according to the region, although the country is so small.
Such a small territory but with so much tradition! Here we can find bread of all kinds, with cereals like wheat and corn and with sweet potatoes, beets, carob, nuts, raisins and more.
In Madeira island there’s even a bread of Arabian origin called “Caco cake” which used to be originally cooked on a hot stone!
