Translations explained

:pushpin: On the new Connect, translations function much better. It is no longer necessary to repeatedly navigate lengthy selection lists in order to choose your target language.

This guide is part of the Transition Tutorials.

Summary

On the new Connect, you can only translate into one language. You need to select your target language only once under Preferences. Then pressing the Globe icon under any foreign text will magically do the translation for you. Keep reading to learn how.

Selecting your language

Open Perferences | Interface to select your language under Interface language. Alternatively, you can tap your profile picture, then select Preferences, and then select Interface to reach the same settings.

Don’t forget to hit the blue Save changes button further down on the page.

Once this is done, you are ready to use the improved translation tool.

How to get text translated

This is super easy. When you see a topic or reply in another language than yours, there will be a tiny Globe icon found under the text.

This is the Globe icon shown much bigger:

You can see the tiny Globe icon in this screenshot:

Just click the Globe icon, and the text will be translated into the interface language you selected. The translated text will appear below the original text. The Globe icon under the translated is blue, as seen below:

PS: The Interface language also determines the language used in menus and on buttons, etc. Not all languages are fully implemented. Then English will be used.

This is the end of this tutorial.

I’m not happy with the way translations are working now. Always having to click on the globe to get a translation is a step back. In the old version of Connect everything was translated automatically into the desired language.

Cheers

You could have been using the browser translator on the old site. But you are right that pages were translated before; now it is per reply/topic.

Yes, that’s what I have used and it worked very good.

I’m happy with the way translation works through the little globe. In the old way, it was tedious and unreliable for me.
