Introduction:
Hello everyone and welcome to a very special 10th Edition of the Top 100 Local Guides Spotlight! To celebrate hitting the double digits, we are heading to the vibrant National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, India, to meet a man whose username literally translates to “Dignified Contentment.”
Please welcome Kumaarsantosh! With over 25 years of leadership in the IT world, Santosh has transitioned from managing global teams to mentoring individuals on personal growth and mindset. On Google Maps, he is a champion for inclusivity, an “unintentional” photography star, and a dedicated road mapper. He’s the type of guy who sees a sunset at a fort and sees a story; he sees an inaccessible hotel and sees an opportunity for change.
Let’s dive into the mind of a mentor who believes that mapping isn’t just about points—it’s a gift to mankind.
The Spotlight Interview: Kumaarsantosh
1. Where on Earth do you call home?
I’m based in the NCR (National Capital Region) of Delhi, India. It’s a high-energy, strategically planned hub where world-class tech campuses meet ancient history. Living here puts me right at the crossroads of global innovation and deep cultural richness.
2. What do you do when you’re not rocking the Local Guides world?
After 25 years in IT leadership, I’ve shifted my focus to my true passion: mentoring and coaching. I love helping people find clarity and purpose in their lives. When I’m not coaching, you’ll find me capturing stories through a camera lens, exploring new cultures, or staying disciplined on my bicycle.
3. How and when did you dive into the Local Guides adventure?
It started in 2017—completely by accident! I’d take a photo of a café or a monument, and Google would gently nudge me to upload it. Curiosity got the better of me, and soon I was getting notifications that my “casual” photos had thousands of views. That’s when the lightbulb went off: my hobby was actually helping people make better decisions.
4. What gets you fired up about being a Local Guide?
I truly see this program as a gift to mankind. It’s a powerful ecosystem where every small action—a photo, a road edit, or an accessibility tag—strengthens the world’s most relied-upon map. Knowing that someone, somewhere, is benefiting from my insight gives me a deep sense of fulfillment.
5. Is there a special meaning behind your Connect username?
It’s a blend of dignity and peace. Kumaar (with a double ‘a’) stems from the Sanskrit for “prince” or “potential,” while Santosh represents “inner peace and gratitude.” Together, it’s a reminder to remain dignified and content in everything I do.
6. What epic message would you love to share with your fellow Local Guides?
Contribute from the heart, not for the badges. If your intentions are genuine and your quality is high, the milestones will chase you. Don’t compare your journey to others; focus on your own path and stay aligned with the policies. Integrity is the only way to build lasting credibility.
7. What’s your absolute favorite type of contribution, and why does it rock?
I am an advocate for Inclusivity Attributes. Labeling places as #Accessibility-friendly, Women-owned, or LGBTQ+ friendly isn’t just checking a box; it’s about making the world safer and more welcoming for everyone. I also have a massive soft spot for road mapping via the TRAC campaign—it’s incredibly satisfying to fix a broken route and help someone reach their destination safely.
8. Which is your favorite all-time contribution, and why?
I have two!
-
The Voice: My review of Hotel Casa Fortuna in Kolkata. It hit 100k views, but the real win was the owner responding to my accessibility suggestions and promising to upgrade their facilities. That is real-world impact.
-
The Vision: A sunset photo of Badal Mahal in Kumbhalgarh. The light, the shadows, and the silhouette of the dome aligned perfectly. It’s a moment of pure magic captured in time.
9. Spill the beans! What gear do you use?
I’m a Xiaomi flagship enthusiast for my daily mobile shots—they are incredibly reliable. For dedicated photo walks, I break out my Nikon DSLR. I’m currently on the hunt for a high-end 360° camera to take my spherical shots to the next level—any suggestions?
10. What do you like most about the Local Guides Community, Connect?
Connect is my second home. It’s a treasure trove of collective wisdom where we uplift each other through selfless collaboration. Whether it’s writing a “How-to” guide or hosting a meet-up, the spirit of the community is what makes the journey worthwhile.
11. Which Top 100 Leaderboard is your favorite?
The Movers & Shakers board! It’s like a diagnostic tool for my own progress. It doesn’t just show numbers; it tells a story of momentum. It’s inspiring to see new stars rise and to use the data as a monthly “stock-taking” of my own efforts.
12. Any features you’d like to see?
I’d love to see the 360 Sphere Leaderboard make a comeback! Capturing immersive 360° views is a specialized craft, and having a dedicated space to recognize that effort really energized the community.
13. What are your favorite holiday destinations?
In India, it’s Coorg (the “Scotland of India”). The coffee-scented air and mist-covered hills are pure rejuvenation. Internationally, Mauritius is a dream—the mix of turquoise water, volcanic rocks, and a deep spiritual essence makes it a photographer’s paradise.
14. What destination would you love to visit one day?
I haven’t explored Europe yet, but I’m eager to wander through those historic streets and iconic landmarks soon!
15. What’s a super fun fact about you?
I’m a natural advisor. I love writing fact-grounded insights and helping organizations navigate challenges. If there’s a problem that needs a practical solution and a steady hand, I’m in my element!
Conclusion
What an enlightening journey with Kumaarsantosh! He reminds us that being a Local Guide isn’t just about the data we put into the system, but the integrity and heart we bring to the process. Whether he’s mentoring a future leader or mapping a new road in the TRAC campaign, Santosh shows us that “Dignified Contentment” is the secret sauce to a successful mapping career.
That’s a wrap on our milestone Spotlight #10! We’ve met some incredible Local Guides over the last ten features, but we’re just getting started. Who will be the first to kick off our next decade of spotlights? Keep your eyes on the Leaderboards and your heart on the map to find out!
