Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Star Photos (March, 2025)

Yes I know and that’s why maybe scrolling reviews is a better option as, while I haven’t checked, I doubt you would have tens of thousands of reviews :flushed_face:

From the facts you present, it sounds like a reasonable date to go with.

Believe me Maria many of us including myself didn’t know then what we were doing :rofl:

It is the best idea that you always update your data regardless of the movement however it’s good to hear that in your case at least @claude_richard it is a positive one.

Like in the Milky Way @tony_b, we have a proportion of red stars! We just have to soldier on!

@tony_b
That is most interesting. Guess I won’t know until they send me an email with some definitive dates and data.
So did you resolve your start date then and did you change it for the leaderboard?

Yes that’s a good way to handle it @MariaNgo. Start with your best guestimate and fine tune it later based on more up-to-date information.

@AdamGT

I don’t know how many were like me.
I stumbled onto it.
And then leapt! Lol

@AdamGT if that works for you and your stats.
I’ll just leave it at 18 Jan 2017 then.
The future will reveal what it reveals.

I’ve tried to look at the first step (Top 100 local guides system) but that link appears broken or is stuffed on my phone. It won’t open up properly after I entered the password.

Hi @WilfriedB , I like the cover image so much. The contrast between the dark foreground and the bright crescent moon is a great shot. Thanks for the nice choice @AdamGT

I’m also experiencing the same issue as many other Local Guides – no increase in star photo views this month. I do update my star photo regularly like many others.
Thank you so much @AdamGT for all the hard work done to motivate and improve our understanding.

Some words about this photo:
Is it a photomontage? No, it is a single frame, just cropped very little from the original out of the camera. It was taken on December 16, 2020 at 16:45 UTC.
Lucky position of the moon? No, not really. The shot was planned with the PhotoPills app on Android, which provides the information for a given position, when and where exactly moon or sun are visible at given date and time.
Made with a Sony ILCA-77M2 and Tamron DT 16-300 mm F3.5-6.3 SSM lens with a focal length of 180 mm (35 mm equivalent: 270 mm) and f/5.6, 30.0 sek (= half minute) , ISO 250 on a tripod.
Lucky was the fact, a car was passing meanwhile, so we can see the trace at the bottom of the image.

BTW @ErmesT told me, he took many pictures of the moon from the same position, I wonder, if he recognizes the direction and what is hidden in the darkness at the top of the hill.

Hi @WilfriedB ,
Thanks for sharing the technical details on how the fabulous shot was planned. I appreciate your efforts in planning and executing the photo in a single frame, in a way similar to a shot planned for a movie. That is interesting. I learned something new from this conversation.

Thank you, @PrasadVR & @TerryPG, for the congrats. I did a lot of hard work to make this happen :rofl:

@MariaNgo,
If you have an Android phone, you should consider the Flex Scroll app
It auto scrolls and has variable rates.
I only have about 1700 maps images, but the app can scroll through the images in about 5 minutes at the 90% scroll speed. Not super fast, but you can be doing something else while waiting. At 75% you can easily get the good look at the images as they go by.

Thank you, @Kumaarsantosh. I’m pretty surprised my photo has held up this well. I still get updates on my counts about every other month. I’m hoping it will get some good jumps over the summer when folks head back to the beaches.

Thanks for that suggestion. Didn’t know there was such an app..

But with 30k photos…

Sorry it’s taken this long to reply @MariaNgo as I’m still working through my notifications. I’m not sure what link you tried but to login, use the link.

Interesting how of late it is every other month @JustJake but hey, it’s a great star photo! I can see that 1% business…hey where’s @WilfriedB, @tony_b, @TerryPG et. al.
