Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Star Photos (August, 2026)

@nigelfreeney I’m not sure if I’m reading your question correctly however, both @SvenJacobs’s Maps and Connect profiles are listed however, with thousands of photos listed on the POI, I cannot determine if the photo listed on board #413 is still one of them.

Good catch @tony_b. Correct, that was a change I thought to try pushing up front and center the 10 top performing countries based on the #1 Local Guide in that country and listing all remaining countries alphabetically. Sorry about the slight panic attack. Not sure if we should revert back to a fall alphabetical country listing on not. Community feedback is important here.

My thoughts are Alphabetically , seems easier to find your country.

Hello @JoseCarlosBH, adding your stars is certainly a different process and I appreciate that it appears difficult at first. However, it is explained in detail on both the star photo album and star video album posts as well as the Leaderboard System’s online documentation. However, if you have any specific questions then the best place to ask these is on the star photo discussion and star photo discussion posts. For your information, together links to all the latest Leaderboard posts, you can always find links to these on the Leaderboard index which you always have convenient access to from either this link or via the Brick-in-the-Wall icon shown on the signature of may Local Guides here on Connect.

Having said all that, a suggestion on how to get started quickly:

  1. Take a screenshot of both our star photo and star video.
  2. Just add the screenshots in comments of the abovementioned album posts
  3. Use the Share a link to this post to get the permalinks to each comment in the album posts.
  4. Add the permalink and details of each star on the Leaderboard System.
  5. When you have time come back, edit and add the remaining details for each of your star listings.

You’re doing really well as a newcomer and your presence on the Leaderboards is well noted. This snippet clearly shows this:

I apologise but I’m not sure what you mean by both these two points.

Yes the Leaderboards and in particular the country leaderboards cover all of our Maps contribution categories. There’s a lot of data collected, managed and then analysed for producing the various leaderboards and designed to be competitive in a friendly way while at the same time being educational and motivating. I’m pleased to hear you say that my posts have been the ones that you’ve been most looking forward to, even if only lately… haha

Keep up the great Local Guide work that you do.

Yes, I agree @TerryPG. There are other Leaderboards where the top LG gets personally listed at the top. For the country leaderboards we should stick to sorting by country name.

Yes after deleting board #404, board #405 was accidentally listed twice @Annaelisa

@AdrianLunsong was one of he early participants on some of the different Leaderboard streams and knows well their inherent quirks  While gaining more Local Guide points and levelling up for example from Level 9 to 10, this can result in your disappearing off the top of your current board for quite some time and furthermore, can require considerable guiding effort to get back onto the next Level board.

Thanks @TerryPG your feedback and the point you make has been noted.

Sorry for joining the discussion a little late.

While I completely agree with keeping the alphabetical order in the Country Leaderboard, as our friends @tony_b and @TerryPG suggested, I also noticed something quite unique about this leaderboard; the featured photo selected by @AdamGT.

The Local Guide in the photo looks like he has just written the most poetic 5-star review ever, and the cafe owner is still wiping away tears. His smile is so bright, it could probably charge his laptop.

He is holding the pen with such confidence that you would think he is about to sign the Declaration of Independence, when he is probably just writing something like, “Perfectly crispy pastry. 5 stars”

And then there is that perfectly positioned “T100” coffee mug, a subtle but brilliant flex. He doesn’t need to tell anyone he is Top 100 Leaderboard participant; the mug says it all. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

With the laptop open, spreadsheet ready, and not a hint of stress on his face, he seems to have mastered the art of staying calm. Corporate chaos? Not his problem.

Honestly, the photo itself deserves a 5-star review.

Hello @rosaleesha

What exact problem are you having? Can you be specific with the step you are at and what exactly happens. Make sure that you start here and let’s see if we can get you on board.

No need to apologise @Kumaarsantosh it happen to me all the time.

Yes the cover photo is very unique and you are quite right Santosh, while the caption tells us that the male in the box seat is a Google Maps Local Guide and Top 100 Leaderboard participant, it needed have told us so as the mug says it all. But I wonder who the distinguished looking Local Guide might be. Perhaps someone in the community here might know of him or help us work this out

 It’s not intentional. I’ve been busy and haven’t had time to write my review for the cat cafe. I wanted to edit my videos into shorter clips and then combine them for uploading to Maps but I’ve just been super busy! I also wanted to edit a longer video for YouTube to talk about reaching level 10 etc. But that’s very unlikely to happen.

I know I should just get it over with.. but I’m not in any rush.

Hi @AdamGT, His Connect profile is missing the link to his LG profile when I try to view it.

The Google Maps Profile link like the one on my Connect Profile missing from @SvenJacobs Connect profile

You would, easily be able to check whether that image was still actively listed by resorting his images by views - it would show at the top even if they views themselves were not being shown.

It’s not that the link is missing @nigelfreeney, you need to understand that while I encourage everyone to turn this option on, it’s an option and thus up to each user to decide if they want to display it or not.

Hi @AdamGT, That still leaves a couple of questions unanswered. Where do you get this figure from? I assume that in order to be listed on the T100 Boards that @SvenJacobs is completing his figures each month. The general way to check the accuracy of the Star Photo count is to check whether the photo is being updated, and if you are being more inquisitive to look at the figures using his LG profile. Because the link is not there this would be impossible - except he is also registered on the LGR Leaderboard. From that I was able to go through to his LG profile and see that the 218M view of Grand Union Station is no longer showing at the top of his photos - listed by view.

Also the stats on the LGR profile show a a large loss of points about 18 months ago and nothing added since.

It seems out of sync that you are allowing LGs who choose not to provide a means to check their star photo are allowed to be listed for the Star Photo / Star Video tables. Have I missed something obvious?

Thanks @nigelfreeney for your diligence on this. In short: for boards ranking by cumulative views, we keep authenticated historical snapshots because the primary goal of the leaderboards is educational—learning what Google Maps AI prefers, regardless of whether a photo is later removed. Meanwhile, for boards based on average views per day (#416 & #417), inactive or non-updated stars naturally decay and self-clean over time.

You’ve raised a nuance that many Local Guides wonder about, so rather than leaving this discussion buried here in the comments of this post, I’ve created a dedicated post explaining how star photo authentication, decaying averages, and historical learning data work across the Leaderboards (see How Star Photo and Video Leaderboards Handle Inactive, Hidden, or Removed Photos).

Thanks for sparking a great community topic!
