@AdamGT reg “Did you say zero views after 3 months”:

Yes and no.

In fact 17 out of 33 photos posted to six listings in that town on July 10 and 12 as of today (10/7), still don’t show any views in My Contributions. However, according to the takeouts, I requested on September 10, they all have more then hundred views (between 101 and 275).

However, I can see very well @tony_b 's point and feel his pain for not getting as many acknowledgements for posting on Maps anymore. :disappointed_relieved:

For me it is just about doing something more with the photos, I made anyway.

BTW, the featured photo, I posted three days ago, also doesn’t show any views (yet?).

@tony_b Dexter was slow to take off after his recent surgery first mentioned on the Top 100 Support forum. You will also see that “he” will operate very differently now such that VIP levels will oscillate (e.g. level 10 one week and level 5 the next) until reaching your final steady state VIP level.

I, like you @tony_b , am not a photographer as such but every now and then I do take a surprisingly good photo; good in the sense that it is very pleasing to the eye but may not be so pleasing to the Google AI.

Thank you for the detailed explanation @WilfriedB . So therefore, while you contributions show that these 17 photos do not as yet show a view count, the takeout of 10/7 indicates that each of them have more than 100 views. Interesting!

@WilfriedB so sad your featured photo not gathered any views yet  .

@AdamGT this comes back to the point @tony_b mentioned “we still aren’t sure what constitutes a view under the new arrangement since February. Some clarity from Google would be good.”. I’d take it a step further saying Google never told us where, when and how they count the views, did they?

Before February, everybody was just assuming, those were meaningful numbers. Now, that the numbers are all lower, increase later or never, we all believe, it must be wrong now, but it could be very well the opposite and the current numbers are more realistic now, but we simply don’t know anything.

Oh I understand the point you are making @WilfriedB and also that which @tony_b makes. I just haven’t had the time to cast my mind to this very interesting issue but of curse have seen the great disappointment among many Local Guides.

Thanks @AdamGT . It was back at VIP 10 when I woke up this morning.

Now i don’t remember which top level feature I was trying to access during the last 48 hours while it was down.

@AdamGT @WilfriedB I still continue to feel reluctant to use the Google Takeout feature, but I might yet be tempted, just to confirm that the zero listed photos are in fact being seen.

@tony_b and @AdamGT you are right for being “reluctant to use the Google Takeout feature,” it is quite cumbersome, because each time you need to download and unzip all media you ever posted to Maps. Downloading sounds easy, but if you have an unstable Internet connection, like me at my current location, it can cost you hours and a lot of temporary space on you computer, just to find out, the numbers are not consistent.

I still do it once a month, just because I did create a subscription, but not sure how long I will continue …

But yes, for those with zero views, it might tell you somehow, some users did see them anyway and posting was not completely useless.

@WilfriedB @AdamGT if we might borrow an expression from the post-COVID era, we could either become comfortable with the “new normal”, or keep on hoping that Google gives us back what we had before. Regarding “great disappointment among many Local Guides”, I’ve seen at least one LG insisting that the current Leaderboards are unrealistic, as they contain vastly different achievements from before and after the change. It is unlikely that millions or billions would be a part of our vocabulary for new LGs or new contributions going forward.

I’m not sure what @tony_b thinks about this or anyone else for that matter but I just don’t have the time for such deep investigation @WilfriedB . However, what do you mean by saying that you created a subscription?

@tony_b @WilfriedB I can understand how some might feel that “the current Leaderboards are unrealistic, as they contain vastly different achievements from before and after the change” however, regardless:

  1. If there is a lag, that is a timing difference between when views are counted, eventually they are counted;

  2. The Leaderboards are much more than just about views, and

  3. Keeping in mind that as well as comparing one’s contributions and achievements with that of others, the Leaderboards and especially the tools provided in the T100 System, continue to provide one with the ability to monitor and manage their own contributions and achievements.

@AdamGT reg " saying that you created a subscription":

When you request a takeout, you can either download it once or get it automatically every other month for one year. This is what I did twice, so I get a takeout automatically every month.

Thanks for explaining that @WilfriedB . For some reason my I read that you have taken a subscription, you meant some paid subscription.

Thank you for the Photo Boards, @AdamGT .

@WilfriedB , what a beautiful shot. I’m amazed by the range of light you were able to capture here. Ansel would be proud!
