I’ve been a Local Guide for a couple of years now and I’ve enjoyed adding places, photos, videos, ratings and even reviews. In this post, let me share my experience with you all by presenting you with some tips for writing a useful restaurant review on Google Maps:
Talk about the background:
You (the reviewer) should let readers apprehend quickly that the review contains helpful information and is worth their time. For that, you can open the review with an attractive line, or guarantee a measurable payoff either good or bad things you want to pinpoint.
Add context to your review. For instance, why did you choose to visit this particular restaurant? How did you find you the restaurant? What time of day was it? Was it a weekday or weekend? What size was the venue? How did the waitstaff treat you? What was the ambiance like? What was the overall age group of people? For an example, let me share my review on a new pizza place near my office. “We ordered Smoked Chicken Pizza, which appeared like an average pizza, but the taste of the pizza was nothing like I had tasted before. I wandered in with two of my colleagues on a Friday night and we were greeted by the friendly employees and unbelievably cozy aroma of cheese in the air as soon as we entered. The seats were filling up quickly, but we some how managed to get us table that fitted us three.”
Highlights the pros and cons:
How did the food taste? If the dish you tried was awesome, explain why. What did they include on the flavors, textures, their appearance? Fastidiously, choose a couple of creative adjectives for describing your experience. For example: "We ordered a Smoked Chicken Pizza of large size. The main recipe seemed to include olive, onion, chicken, feta, mozzarella, pepperoni, chicken sausage and garlic. The garlic blends smoothly with butter, yeast, and therefore, the flavor lasts in your mouth even after you’re done eating. We had high expectations from this place because of a huge number of recommendations from our friend circle. And once our pizzas arrived, our expectations continued to be exceeded with each bite. The crust was crisp, flavorful, and chewy. The toppings worked along superbly. The pasta sauce and pesto were packed with flavor, and therefore, the mozzarella had a good consistency and really very little oil. The taste of every slice makes you wait eagerly for your next visit."
End it classy:
End with a punchy outline of why the diner is a must go. In order words, try giving reasons to let your readers decide either they ought to or should not visit the place. In your review, you can for sure have a different opinion than that of other reviewers.
For example: “Don’t get carried away with social media hypes. The appearance can be deceiving — the ornamentation is also divey. However, the pizza tasted fantastic. This place is ideal for groups and gatherings.”

Thank you for your reply, Sir! What I wanted to do was to remove the post in How-tos and add it in Local Stories. But since I had less knowledge, I posted it twice in those two categories. I have filled out the form for Local Guides Connect and provided the link to Local Stories. Hence, could you please get the post in Local Stories back and remove the one in How-tos?
I did change the label. But I am totally unsure if the old link (the link of the post that you merged with this one) would still work. Will the old link still work, Sir?
