Mom’s Hand Modern Laundry in Phnom Penh is a small, women-owned business that proudly welcomes the LGBTQ+ community.
When I discovered it on Google Maps, I saw an opportunity to help them grow digitally and connect with more people, especially international visitors.
I took time to contribute multiple language labels — Japanese, Chinese, and Korean — so that travelers could find this business in their native language. It was a small effort, but it made a big difference. Soon, the business began attracting more diverse customers, simply because they could read and understand the services offered.
Later, the owner claimed the location on Maps, which allowed her to respond directly to customers, chat in real-time, and manage her business information more confidently. She shared how thankful she was because what started as just an online map pin turned into a real growth opportunity for her shop.
This is what Local Guides is truly about: helping communities be seen, supporting inclusive spaces, and using technology to uplift local lives.
