The problem of searching for the T100 Leaderboards

It kind of looks similar to mine @shunsader

Wilfried please remember that you will receive additional views if one of your contributions is featured on the menu items or like yours under the "Vibe " section .
It’s one of the reasons I advocate tagging your foodie photos( link in my signature)

Exactly, Terry! This means, when trying to understand why one photo gets many views and another not, it is much more complex than being the cover, featured or not. Besides showing under any of those multiple tabs, please don’t forget, our media can also be shown and even featured at geographical pins without our knowledge earning views there, sometimes even while not showing up at the pin where we di post it (a recent example showing under Spoleto but not where I posted it - not many views, but in average 3 daily ).

I do too! Not only food, but always when I have a description more detailed than just the name of the POI. However, I doubt, it plays a role in this context. It should help users after they choose to click on it, but not for the decision to show it or not. :person_shrugging:

@TerryPG @WilfriedB I haven’t routinely done so, but sometimes if i upload photos of food, Google asks me “What is the name of this dish?” At this point I’m unable to confirm whether those named dishes get more views than other non-tagged photos, as i haven’t been tracking that detail.

It’s almost impossible to track the difference Tony, but if you tag it’s an acknowledgement to Google of what that dish is. Plus you do get points if I remember when you add a dish name.
Again if your dish is featured on the menu photo you will receive more views.

Getting back to the problem of searching for the Leaderboards, has using this link been mentioned before?

Adam,
I haven’t looked at what your link is, but it did find some of the Leaderboards ; some from November, October and September, but not all of them. Did you see my post on two searches that find all of the Leaderboards (between the two of them) in the order they are posted? From most recent to whatever starting date you choose.

With saved searches you can get immediate notifications if you want to.

That works Adam, but what is it, and how do i get back there if i want to use it again next week or next month?

Tony, the URL for the link to Topics tagged leaderboard is:
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/tag/leaderboard
It seems, it shows you all leaderboard posts with the most recent on top.

P.S. If you want to know, what exactly is “hidden” behind a link, right mouse click the link on the desktop and select “Copy link address” (or similar) and paste it into the address field of your browser or any text editor for future usage:

My understanding is that AdamGT can only use the Leaderboard tag in the celebration category. Not all of the posts are in this category.

True Alfred, I forgot about it. But which of the leaderboards was not in the celebration category? I was believing, it was “Movers & shakers”, but those are part of the list, I see using the link mentioned above.

The Leaderboards tag search returns 8 posts.
The search
“Top 100” @AdamGT after:2024-10-01 in:title
Returns 14 posts after you tap display more.
I haven’t looked to which ones are missing the LB tag.

This one is not tagged:
grafik
But “Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Photos (November, 2024)” is. So, it seems, starting with November they all belong to the same category now.
Patience and let’s see …

Sorry @JustJake for my late reply. It’s for the reasons and examples I mentioned in my reply to @MortenCopenhagen that I’m of the view that tags should be site based rather than category based.

@Rednewt74 I only just read your message and if it helps, I will certainly accommodate this.

I do recall that discussion @TerryPG and yes I’m interested in doing it however, my concern is the time that it would take for users to enter and maintain the data. If only the data was available in such a way that we could automate the updating.

@Rednewt74 I wonder if this link will work for finding the latest posts!

Hijacking the thread again, Tony I got this message for 2 foodie posts yesterday and I can confirm you get 3 points for naming the “Dish”.
If your lucky enough to have your photo on the menu list you will get more views.

Hello Terry and Tony,
independent of the question of getting more points or views, I believe captions give readers a big benefit (vice versa, I keep saying photos without any context information are useless.) So, I add captions whenever possible:

  • Quite a while ago, I started the habit to not only take pictures of the food, but also the menu lists (if I don’t forget  ) - at least the pages with the dishes we ordered in order to be consistent with restaurant’s naming for their dishes.
  • I only upload from desktop, but after checking if none is hidden, I open My Contributions on the mobile app, copy the dish names from desktop to Android and add the captions there. This is not the same as Add dish names in Terry’s example! But these captions are visible, when users watch the photos on the listing. Example. Sometimes, I do this also for non-food pictures, if there is some interesting detail to mention.
  • You don’t need to wait to be pushed for Add dish names, instead on the mobile you go to Contribute, tap the blue horizontal bar More ways to contribute … (or similar see my screenshot below) and then Add dishes (as in Terry’s screenshot). It takes a while after uploading until it shows your most recent food pictures, but I prefer to do it that way, when I have time, instead of waiting to be pushed.

Just to put my 2 cents in …
