The Most Iconic Sunset Spot in Galle, Sri Lanka

Hello, my dear friend, thank you very much for clicking my post. :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face: Today I’m going to take you to another wonderful travel destination in Sri Lanka.:heart_eyes: I’m sure, maybe you already know about this magical place. This place is so famous among travelers from all around the world who visit Sri Lanka. In this post, I’m going to highlight the best sunset observing spot which is located in this magical place.:ok_hand::ok_hand:

Before you continue, I would like to ask a question from you. Do you like to know where you can see the most beautiful sunrise view in Dambulla, Sri Lanka? If yes, please read this post I’m sure you’ll love it. If, no, it’s okay, let’s continue reading this one then.:blush:

About the place
Yes, it is Galle Fort. The Galle Fort in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. The fort has a colorful history, and now it is one of the main tourist’s attractions in Sri Lanka. The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the "Ramparts of Galle. I know it’s boring to read about the history things,:wink: therefore, I’ll talk more about it in another post. Okay, my friend, let’s go to the place. Please Come with me, first we have to enter from the new entrance of Galle Fort and then we have to turn right and then… Stop!!! :raised_hand:

Landmark you must remember.

Before we go to the place, there’s another special landmark you must watch. Let’s go near to that landmark. It is The Galle Clock Tower or Anthonisz Memorial Clock Tower. It is a popular landmark and overlooks the central Moon Bastion, on the site of the former guard room. The Clock Tower was constructed in 1883, paid for through public subscriptions by the people of Galle, in recognition of Dr. P. D. Anthonisz. The clock itself was the sole gift of a grateful patient, Mudaliyar Samson de Abrew Rajapakse. The plate of the clock tower carries the inscription: "This tower erected by public subscription to the perpetual memory of Peter Daniel Anthonisz (born in Galle) in the testimony of his skill and benevolence in relieving human suffering. The tower is roughly four stories high and is situated immediately inside the fort ramparts. You must remember this landmark because it gives you the directions for the wonderful sunset observing spot. :+1:Okay, my friend, as you can see in the photo now we’re looking at the clock tower. Now, please turn to your left side and continue walking. Now you can see the North West Corner Of Galle Dutch Fort. Yes, that edge is the correct spot.:heart_eyes::ok_hand::ok_hand:

What I can see here?

You can sit down on the edge of the wall and under your feet, you can see, the sea playing with the rock reef. Above your head, you can see the red mix golden sky. From your left side, you can see the Galle lighthouse and the beautiful golden sea. From your right side, you can see the Galle city and also the golden sea playing with rock reef. In front of you, you can see, the red sun trying to hide in the golden horizon between the golden sea and the red sky. You can imagine the beauty of this wonderful scenery.:heart_eyes:

What is the best time to go there?

If you want to walk around inside Galle Fort it’s better to go at around 3 pm in the evening :+1:. If you want to observe the sunset, it’s better to go on around 4.45 pm in the evening :+1:. It’s much better to visit this place with your loved one because it’s really romantic when the red sun kisses the golden sea.:heart_eyes:

Be careful when you sitting on the edge of the wall. I know you can swim well but don’t try it here. Sadly there aren’t any accessibility facilities at this spot. :frowning::frowning:

So, my friend what you think about this wonderful place. Maybe you also know some beautiful sunset and sunrise spots in your country. Please tell me about it in the comment section below and also please attach some photos you captured from those places too. I’m curious to know what do you think about my post. Hello @bDilshan95 ,

You’ve captured a stunning photograph of the sunset. It shows the beautiful yellow, gold and orange colours in the sky and the blue water to compliment them. I will make sure to check your other posts. Is Galla Fort your most favourite place to take photos of the sunset?

Thank you very much, my dear friend @KashifMisidia . This place is located in Galle, my friend. There are many ways to come to this place from the Galle Face Hotel.

Comfortable methods

  • Hire a private taxi (This will cost around 9000 Sri Lankan rupees to 10,000 Sri Lankan rupees and will take 2 or 3 hours to visit Galle from Galle Face Hotel)
  • Highway buses ( You have to go to the Maharagama Highway bus stand to take a highway bus to Galle and it will cost 450 Sri Lankan rupees for one person. These buses have big baggage facilities too. These air-conditioned buses are really comfortable and really worth. It’ll take 2 hours from Maharagama Highway bus stand to Galle)

Cheap methods

  • Normal buses ( You can get into these buses near the Galle Face Hotel and these buses are not comfortable. Not sure you’ll have a seat to sit down. They go really fast and drive carelessly. They don’t have baggage facilities. It will cost 130 to 260 Sri Lankan rupees for one person to visit Galle from Colombo. It’ll take 3 to 4 hours to reach Galle from Colombo and it depends on the traffic conditions. You can also take a bus from Bastian Mawatha Bus Station and you can surely have a seat)

  • AC buses (You can take a bus from Bastian Mawatha Bus Station and you can surely have a seat and these buses are a little bit small and comfortable than normal buses. They don’t have baggage facilities. It will cost 280 Sri Lankan rupees for one person to visit Galle from Colombo. It’ll take 3 hours to reach Galle from Colombo and it depends on the traffic conditions.)

  • Train ( You can take a train from Fort Railway station and it will cost 130 Sri Lankan rupees for one person to visit Galle from Colombo. It’ll take 3 hours to reach Galle from Colombo. Trains have a special time table so you have to check the train time table before you go. Trains are not much comfortable and it’s not sure you’ll have a seat but it’s really fun to travel by train.)
