The incredible "Bosco Verticale (Vertical forest)" in Milan, Italy

I have visited Milan this weekend and got surprised from these two innovative buildings located in the Porta Nuova district of Milan called Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest).

It is a pair of award-winning residential towers designed by thge famous architects STUDIO BOERI IN MILAN

The towers have heights of 110 metres (360 ft) and 76 metres (249 ft) respectively and host 900 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 meters or 10-30 ft) and over 2,000 plants from a wide range of shrubs and floral plants distributed in relation to the façade’s position towards the sun.

I believe that everyone would love to have in their own city more and more of these real examples of sustainability

What do you think about them?

@Giuseppe75 This is unique and I like it. Thanks for sharing. Are the plants natural or artificial?

Hi @Giuseppe75 ,

Thank you for taking a picture of “Bosco verticale”. These are two towers designed by Stefano Boeri in the centre of the city in collaboration with a team of horticulturalists.

From the 8th till the 14th of April in Milan there will be also a great design fair called “Fuorisalone”, with many temporary installations that will be around the city. You can check them on this link.

Thank you @Findavid . I appreciate your feedback

Saludos Farid.

@Giuseppe75 - I can see why Milan is world famous for design and its interpretation of beauty and style. These apartment buildings are amazing to look at. I wonder what the viewpoint is like for each of individual apartment owners looking out from their windows into Milan?

Do you know how these trees are being care for? And how old are these apartment buildings? Clicking on your links I learned the architect is famous, where these buildings are located (thanks Google Maps), and personal Local Guides reviews. Thanks for including them.

Sharing your post with @ErmesT @davidhyno since they are much closer to Milan than me. This is yet another reason to visit your beautiful city.

@FaridTDF , thanks for tagging me. We have nothing like this urban forest dwelling performance art form in SanFrancisco. There are similar 1970s condominium building architecture in the Embarcadero area. More rectangular, or horizontal, in length. Shorter in height. Minus the massive amounts of color coordinated trees and shrubs strategically placed on each of the condo balconies.

Cheers,

Karen

saludos Farid.

Great photo @Giuseppe75 , in fact Tito Boeri has added a very special view of the city skyline.

Funny thing: Check on this view where Google Italy is

Hello @KarenVChin ,

I am so glad you liked these extraordinary buildings. What a special feeling getting closer and admiring this vertical forest with all this green for our eyes . I understand that the construction started in 2009 to celebrate the official opening after 5 years in 2014. There are around 800 trees and the two towers are respectively 110 and 76 m

I read that these buildings are very expensive and the care of all these vertical gardens is shown in this nice video showing The three flying gardeners

Grazie mille @ErmesT the area around these buildings is completely new and guests many trees, gardens, modern parks for dogs and other modern facilities built with a sustainable approach . If you have not visited it I strongly recommend a photographic tour :+1::blush:. Wow thank you for sharing the interesting information :+1: I just saw that the Italian office of Google are in this modern zoen of Milan.

Muchas gracias @FaridTDF ,

I am glad you liked these two exemplary modern towers . I agree that Italy and in general Europe are expanding quickly their architectural dimension and it’s worth to explore around these innovative city extensions.

Visiting the area around the buildings I got impressed of the many design restaurants, bars and people practicing sport in the morning.

@Giuseppe75 - for some reason, I thought the gardeners would get access through the apartment owner’s front doors and walk into these apartments to tend to their garden maintenance. Never thought they would be climbing down like window washers in high rises. Also, I was thinking the trees and shrubs would be in containers placed within the apartment balconies. But from what I can tell by watching your video, they are outside the balconies and built attached to the balconies.

I laughed when I saw the snail. It just shows that pests, like snails, will get to their food source no matter what.

@ErmesT , I wonder from Google Italia’s windows, do you think they have a great view of “Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest)”?

Cheers,

Karen

@KarenVChin , apparently Google Italia’s office are just on the other side of the square.

Maybe we can ask someone in Google to post a picture of the view from their windows, @DeniGu

You are welcome @Giuseppe75 , for sure I will have to visit the place. I still remember the beauty of “Expo 2015”, and the important subject: Feed the planet
