The existing road in Uganda are not properly shaped. উগান্ডার বিদ্যমান রাস্তাগুলি সঠিকভাবে তৈরি করা হয়নি।

Dear fellow local guides,
I hope you are all doing well.
One thing always puzzles me. Whenever I go road mapping to draw new roads, I always notice that the shape of the old roads is not correct. Perhaps all local guides like me involved in road mapping face this specific issue.

Is there no solution to fix the incorrect shape of these existing roads, rather than relying on manual human efforts?

All of these existing roads are not in proper shape, as indicated by the red arrows!

After correcting the shape of the existing roads, I also drew the unmapped roads that are visible.

I have shown just one example above, but there are thousands of similar issues where the shapes of the existing roads are incorrect.

I’m participating in the Roadmapping Contest TORM Kick-Off, which started on October 1st and will continue until October 31st, 2025.

I spend a significant amount of time fixing the shape of these old roads. This has hindered my progress in the contest, as I devote most of my efforts to these repairs.

So far, I have completed over 1,000 challenges for this contest, and I am working to recreate the original shape of the old roads as accurately as possible.

Hi @Roman_Ahmmed

You know the two modes: draw and select.
In select mode you can batch select a lot of misaligned roads should they just need to be moved over to better fit with the satellite image.
Just select one end, then shift+select at the other end and all in between road sections are then automatically selected, ready to be moved.
What you show in the screenshot cannot be fixed this way. It looks like someone drew roads with a very sloppy and lazy hand.
Cheers

In addition to what @MortenCopenhagen said : Sometimes adjusting or even connecting a road else where in the region. It disturbs some other parts of the road. That’s my personal observation on this.

Well-done @Roman_Ahmmed congratulations and thank you for participating.

Happy mapping
Cheers

Your title refers to Uganda, but this issue occurs in all the Challenge countries. Congratulations on your progress despite having to stop and fix errors along the way. 1000 challenges are more than what many others have done in this campaign. My total for the month will be less than that.

You make an excellent point.
I wanted to highlight the time I spent correcting the shapes of old roads that exactly match what is shown in satellite images.

If my focus had solely been on drawing new roads, I might have completed over 1,500 challenges by now. Thank you

My main interest was whether there is a way to correct the shape of the old roads that do not match their appearance in satellite images without human intervention. ?

Nope. There are no tools for that. I fail to imagine how they should work.

I often find incorrectly drawn roads to have either very few or too many nodes.

When too many, I reduce the number by piling them on top of each other to reduce the number. This is often needed for straight and almost straight roads. After reducing the number it is not so much work aligning them with the satellite image.
