Nakshi Kantha is a centuries-old traditional Bengali art form of decorative quilting and embroidery. The name is derived from the Bengali word naksha-āύāĻāĻļāĻž , meaning artistic pattern or decorative design, and kantha , meaning quilt or rags. Multiple layers of cloth are spread flat, smoothed, and secured at the edges. Artisans first outline the focal points and motifs before adding detailed filling stitches.

Towering at 44 feet tall , this four-story-long Nakshi Kantha serves as a narrative tapestry that chronicles the journey and heritage of Bangladeshâs artisanal craft, designed by Samiul Alam , the mural was handcrafted over six to twelve months by a core team of 16 artisans, supported by a wider group of 250 rural artisans.
Approximately 80â90% of the mural is composed of upcycled and recycled materials , including discarded sarees, production offcuts, and salvaged ornamentation, setting a high standard for sustainable interior design.
