This place is mainly Nature Reserve by the Government, Only travel method is by the Safari Truck. The main reason to keep this place very clean due to littering.

8 personal safari truck will cost you Sri Lankan Ruppees 2000/=. There is not much hiking other than from the truck stop of the heighest stop.

If you are really interested on hiking best places are Lipton Seat / Reverseton / Knukles mountain and Ella…

Cheer!!!

Yes I have been many times

A beautiful place on a high plateau, near Nuwara Eliya. There are two ways to reach here on foot, though about 11KM one way the path up the Kirigalpoththa mountain is the most scenic.

Take the night train from Colombo to reach the Ohiya station by morning, the path is right behind the Ohiya train station. It is a climb from the start the road often gets covered in mist.

The other starts near the Belihuloya rest house which again is a steep climb from the main road connecting Colombo and Haputale, On this trail you reach the top of the Bambarakanda waterfall which is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka.

The best time is when it is not raining, that is from January to March. If you are looking to travel down the Kirigalpotta trail on foot then take a piece of soap with you to protect yourself from leeches although are not harmful are an irritant  When you rub soap on it the leech falls to the ground. Also, travel in the morning because it can get hot when the sun is hot and the journey can be more tiresome than in the morning. Take a sweater with you because it can get cold early in the morning because of the elevation, When traveling by train the view out of the window is awesome once you pass Kandy. The nigh train to Badulla from Colombo reaches Ohiya at the best time to enjoy the scenery early in the morning and to start your hike if it does not get late as happens sometimes…

Wow the new added photos look great! My favourite are the ones showing the island from on top of the hill and you can see some kind of fog or mist between the heights.

PS. Now I will definitely visit that wondrous island! Thanks for sharing your photos, they helped me make my decision.
