Some places in map didn't accept editing or give them a 2 language names.

well, there is an old places/cities in map the old editors just decide to wrote them in English but they did not except any kind of edit to add another language name e.g Arabic like other cities named in arabic " Circular".

how can we make the names appear in arabic to make all names as 1 language?

Hi @NO1xMOHAMED

You need to select the other language in Google Maps to get access to add or edit the name in the other language.

This is done under settings in the App. At the top. App language.

Hi @NO1xMOHAMED

You are right, both Birkat Al Awamer and Nabat al Usayl appears in Maps with the English name.

Towns, roads and squares are elements of the Map Layer. Local Guides cannot edit that layer. Only Google Maps team can.

What we can do, for helping the team, is to:

  • Report an error on Google Maps, through the “send a feedback” that you will find scrolling down your menu on Google Maps. For more details you can read: Report an error on the map
  • Report the issue on the Google Maps Help Community for them to raise directly the issue to the Google Maps team

Whey you will raise the issue to them, please remember to attach a link to an official (governative) map or document to support your request

this is what pop-up @ErmesT when i try to report.

it’s selected ( arabic ) already @MortenCopenhagen this is why you see the other cities name shows in arabic not english, but only a few cities/road they didn’t accept editing to add arabic name to them, so they just pop up in english while other in arabic…

I’m sorry about that, @NO1xMOHAMED , so please try to Report the issue on the Google Maps Help Community

I would like to ask you to tag the people you are talking with, by using @ followed by the username of the person you want to tag. The last people in the conversation will also appear in a pop-up

@ErmesT Since you tell me I tried and post on google map community but no one answering me there I waited for 48 hours no one even replied to me.

also from what I read there the community running by volunteers not from Google map team Itself.

we all know Google map is multiple language app so when you set the language to Arabic for example everything shows on Arabic cities, street, names the app itself but some places/cities still showing in English for unknown reasons and when I Try to edit them and add Arabic as secondary name they did not except any kind of edit.

so from your experience what is the problem and who is the one that can solved it.

I do everything possible on the Internet searching asking digging but nothing comes up with me.

  • check out these places

  • Barwa Village

  • Industrial Area

  • Rawdat Al Hamama

tell me what you think!

thank you!

Hi @NO1xMOHAMED

I haven’t studied the places you just shared links to.

But I would like to share a few facts that might explain why the names in more languages are often problematic.

New places can be added using English or Arabic. Then the other language is most likely missing.

What complicates things is that some Local Guides are not aware of the fact that we should always be aware of what language is selected and never add an English name in the Arabic name field and vice versa.

So when you see only one name field it is the one selected in the App.

Sometimes I need to copy and remove the text in a name field just to chck what the language is. And the paste the name back if it is in the correct language.

This is actually a lot of work. And Google is not making it very easy for us to clean up the language mess.

@MortenCopenhagen you mean this right (photo above) that’s easy for me.

what i ask for is different, just try to have a look link above.

even if you select ( arabic ) for google map they will still showing in english.

then tell me also your opinion.

@NO1xMOHAMED

Your reply makes little sense. I mentioned different aspects. What are you refering to?

The two first links you shared are to areas. Those you can not Suggest edits to.

If you are confused about areas and items on the maps not accepting edits and photos, please enjoy this overview Shapes and Places - Guidance on where to add edits and photos including both flat and photospheres by PaulPavlinovich.

The last one is a normal pin. I can’t help you with the Arabic related stuff since I can’t change my language to Arabic to test and then be sure to gong my way back. I use Danish and English all the time.

well, i read it and am referring to areas.

there is no way to edit them? it’s something annoying to see all map in arabic except some.

or al least suggest edit to the team?

i want to clear the map thats all.

You can give feedback in the App and suggest improvements to areas that way.

Or you can use the Maps support forum.

Hit the Community tap at the top and make a post. You need to attach or link to official documentation supporting the change you are proposing.
