Sakaleshpura – Subrahmanya Train Route in Monsoon

The Sakaleshpura to Subrahmanya Road train journey is one of the most scenic routes in Karnataka, especially during the monsoon. Covering about 56.8 km through the Western Ghats, this stretch is a paradise of misty hills, rain-drenched forests, gushing waterfalls, and deep valleys.

Popularly called the Green Route / Western Ghats Railway line, it is an engineering marvel with 58 tunnels, 109 bridges, and more than 25 waterfalls along the way . During monsoon, the entire route comes alive with streams flowing right next to the train tracks and clouds drifting through the valleys.

  • KSR Bengaluru – Karwar Express (16513 / 16514) - includes Vista Dome coach for panoramic views

  • Yesvantpur – Kannur Express (16517 / 16518)

  • KSR Bengaluru – Mangaluru Express (16539 / 16540)

A similar route is from Igatpuri to Nashik Road in Maharashtra.
This railway route also passes through dense forest, mountains, and tunnels, though not as many.
