Revised approval process of autumn 2024 is obviously buggy ❌ ✅

Several other users already reported the quirky and stricter approval process since autumn/fall 2024. I even stated “broken” in the AI mod rejects my edits thread of @Bryan_Hix

Now I noticed the next buggy issue: an edit is notified as “not accepted” but actually the opposite is true: accepted!

Hello @makky

That’s funny really. Place edits for me has been approval in 2-5mins. Road approvals is different though. I wish the 2-5mins approvals could be for roads.

Anyway I haven’t problems with place edits. By the way, what kind of places are you editing or adding ? If it’s banks or pharmacy or hospitals, that might be a reason why you’re getting rejected.

Happy mapping
Cheers

yes, auto denial for POIs of restricted categories as educational, medical, financial, accomodation, public transport
is already known – but lacks a clear notification by the moderation system

I have noticed some strange behavior when fixing place names.

In the list of edits I see

A) Place names that are labeled as Approved but the old place name is still shown! This never happened to be just a month ago.

B) Place names that are labeled as Not approved but the new name I proposed is mentioned as the current name.

Maybe it is just a bug in the process that generates these notifications.

Or maybe there is a new delay before a new name is synced to all relevant servers. According to my observations I lean towards believing there is a new delay at play here.

Hopefully more people will share their observations.

I’ve seen this said before, but I get pharmacies approved, no problem. Could it be a country-specific restriction?

Hi @makky and @MortenCopenhagen,

Can you please share examples with screenshots and Maps links to locations you’ve edited but the edit statuses appear incorrectly?

These will greatly help with the investigation of this issue. Thank you!

Easy as maybe 80% of my most recent edits have this issue.

Disclaimer. If the new issue us related to delays, then all of these should be checked again after 24 hours.

The listing still shows the name with the Mall name included in the name field.
This one is more than 24 hours old.

Approved but old name remains in in-app notification and on the listing!

This chain of store er known to pretty much immediately overwrite any user corrections to the name. They force the use of Allcaps and add unjustified location information in the name field.

Thanks, @MortenCopenhagen!

Indeed, these edits are super recent, so I’ll check back in a few days to see if the corrections have been reflected on Maps. In the meantime, if the edit statuses change on your end, please let me know!

Even though my Edits usually resolve in minutes, i had a recent one that took a few days. This seems to coincide with the current situation with drawing roads. Those road approvals are seldom and taking a long time.

Edit accepted but wrong notification, as already mentioned & my first case that kind:
BHASIN since 1986

Some examples of edits strictly according the policy but notified as “not according our policy”:
ATM IC Cash Services

Euronet - Geldautomat - ATM

Café-Lounge Alter Markt 55

same pattern, without screenshots:
Euronet - Geldautomat - ATM
Euronet - Geldautomat - ATM
Euronet - Geldautomat - ATM

Hi @MortenCopenhagen,

I went over the examples you shared again, and it looks like the edits to the names of some of them have been reflected on Maps:
ILVA
Sport 24 Outlet
Kosangas automat

There could be a latency issue, meaning that the edits you make are indeed accepted as the edit status shows, but it takes a while for the change to be actually reflected on Maps. In any case, I’ve forwarded the rest of the examples to the team so they can look into this.

Hi @makky,

It seems that only the first example you shared - about BHASIN since 1986 - is related to the issue you raised in the main topic about incorrect edit statuses. I’ve forwarded that one to the team to investigate.

The rest of the examples you gave seem to be in support of feedback you have about rejected edits that you believe follow the Maps policies. It’d be super helpful if you could share your feedback directly in Google Maps as that way it reaches the responsible team. The more feedback is sent via Maps, the more the team is able to gauge the importance of an issue and take actions.

Thanks for your understanding!

Thanks. Earlier today I intended to check the outcome also. But I got distraced. I saw that some of them had indeed changed. I just wanted to emphasize that this is a new behaviour )I think less than one or two months old=. Before this never happened. The edits I got approved were changed on the placepage within minutes.

Hi @makky,
Just a quick follow-up here.

I checked with the team about your rejected edits of the Euronet ATMs. They confirmed that having the word “ATM” in the name of the location isn’t against the rules. In fact, it helps differentiate between the different entities of a financial institution, for example, offices, branches, and ATMs.

You can find more information about this in the Help article Guidelines for representing your business on Google under Content guidelines for Business Profiles > Name.

Hope this helps.
