I have tried to enter a new recycling spot twice now. The first time I entered basic info, the second time I added detailed info including pictures anc a video and it was almost immediately rejected. Looking on Maps you can even see the large recycling bins on the satellite view, even though it is in a low-res area. (39.9996647, -83.2030436). Any thoughts?
Did you try pre-verification as explained here:
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t/how-to-get-edits-and-new-places-approved/374518
You could also try searching for the category in the vicinity to check if it is already on the mad with a difference name.
Please remember to delete the photos in your contribution list so you don’t accidentally uploads duplicates.
The category you mentioned could be used for smaller places. Maybe recycling center would be more appropriate.
I noticed that you added the township hall. Adding many places close together might trigger the spam filter to block points hunters.
I did not know that pre-verification was such a thing. I will give that a go.
Yeah, it is right in with the township hall and fire station. IN our community, a number of the recycling drop-off points are in the parking lots of fire stations or grocery stores.
I did try searching locally and doing the zoom-in/zoom-out dance to see if something would show.
The zoom in and out dance will not work. There are way too many places in the database to fit on the map.
Hi @AngeloSerra , thank you for trying to add them.
This was also a challenge organised on Connect for the Earth day on last April, (you may have received also the April newsletter about the initiative)
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t/mapping-for-green-april-challenge-localguidescleantheworld/475702
During the challenge I added 30 of them on 30 days, fortunately without any problem.
The three bin are well visible, also if in distance, from Street View
And looking at the image, I think that Recycling drop-off Location is the correct category, @MortenCopenhagen , because there is not an organized structure in there, like the ones in the recycling centers.
What I did to have them approved was just to keep my edit simple, using only the basic information:
- Name (on my area they call them Ecological Island + the reference number)
- Category
- Address
- Position of the pin
I added photos and review only when each place was visible in Google Maps
So it sounds strange to me that the edit were rejected, also because I can find other Recycling Drop-off locations in the area
Thank you @ErmesT ! I have been frustrated a few times attempting to figure out what will work and what won’t work when attempting to add a place. I did not know there was an effort in April (leading up to Earth Day no doubt) to add recycling spots. That only makes it more confusing why the local spots I attempted to add were all rejected no matter how I attempted to add them.
I will give it one more go to add with only the four items you listed.
Thanks again @ErmesT - the very simple addition worked! I certainly would have thought being onsite with pictures would have done it.
Thanks for confirming that it worked well, @AngeloSerra , and your issue seems to be solved.
My philosophy is to keep an edit simple. More information you add means more information to verify, and if a single one cannot be verified all the edit is gone.
You can always add additional details, plus your photos a d the review once the listing is approved, and available in Google Maps (normally after 24/48 hours)
Well, my idea is that Earth Day is everyday, @AngeloSerra
Here is the list of the places I added on April
More places will be added in Google Maps on the next few month.
Stay tuned in Connect for the news
Thank you for making Google Maps more sustainable
