[RECAP] LGC 3rd Anniv Photo Walk Lahore

Purpose of this photo walk is to celebrate 3rd anniversary along with our local guides community in Lahore. We Have selected historical location of Lahore and would like to share the historical places of walled city of Lahore with our global local guide community.

Food Street - Lahore

It was brilliant day after rain sky was clear and amazing clouds enhancing the beautification of this historical place. I can say ideal lighting and weather for Landscape photographers. We all are gathered on 28th July 2019 at 16:00 (PKT) in front of famous Food Street of Lahore.

Walk leader Simon Andrews gives a short brief regarding the Photo Walk then we all spread around the food street and start capturing beautiful and historical buildings such as Badshahi Masjid (Mosque), Minar-e-Pakistan, Azad Interchange and other historical places.

Badshahi Masjid (Mosque) PC: Simon Andrews

The Badshahi Mosque is a Mughal era masjid in Lahore, capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab, Pakistan. The mosque is located west of Lahore Fort along the outskirts of the Walled City of Lahore, and is widely considered to be one of Lahoreā€™s most iconic landmarks.

Minar-e-Pakistan - Lahore PC: Simon Andrews

Minar-e-Pakistan (Ł…ŪŒŁ†Ų§Ų±Ł Ł¾Ų§Ś©Ų³ŲŖŲ§Ł†ā€Ž) is a national monument located in Lahore, Pakistan. The tower was built between 1960 and 1968 on the site where the All-India Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution on 23rd March 1940 - the first official call for a separate and independent homeland for the Muslims of British India, as espoused by the two-nation theory. The resolution eventually helped lead to the emergence of an independent Pakistani state in 1947.

Azad Interchange - Lahore PC Simon Andrews

Azadi Chowk is a large elevated roundabout in Lahore, capital of Punjab, Pakistan. AzadiChowk is near the Minar-e-Pakistan monument, where the ceremony of the Pakistan Resolution was conducted, resulting in the creation of Pakistan. As one of the Lahoreā€™s major entry points, the interchange is usually busy.

We had wonderful day till 18:00 (PKT) and captures so many beautiful images love to meet people from local guides community. We all are planning to plan more meet ups and photo walks to promote our networking with our global community and share authentic information about our country.

At the end i would like to thank @RadieN for approving my first meet up @KashifMisidia for encourging us to plan this meet up in Lahore and all the participants.

Hey @KarenVChin I am really overwhelmed to have such encouraging response. These kinds appreciating words fuelled up a new energy in me. I am thankful for your keen interest in my work as well as my ideas about future work

Though it was my first LG Photowalk but I enjoyed thoroughly. The response from LGs here in Pakistan was pretty good. However, I want not only to share beautiful Pakistan, itā€™s historical places, itā€™s beauty through my images with my global friends but also want to highlight real time issues of Pakistan and its people through my effort. Like I am organising my next Photowalk on Environment issue which is faced by not only Pakistan but globally. With such ideas we can help portray Pakistanā€™s beautiful image outside. Next I would like to organise an awareness session with high school students to help sensitive them the importance of Local Guides in improving Google Maps, also to inspire young minds how they can play their vital role in improving it by utilising the modern eraā€™s gadgets students use on daily basis these days. At this point I would like thank @KashifMisidia you always guides and encourage me .

I would be happy to have your guideline on my plans. Thanks in anticipation.

@KatyaL Thank you so very much for your kind appreciation. I am really pleased to read out your comments on my first ever Photowalk review. With such great encouragement from you, we will keep sharing our beautiful images and reviews about beautiful Pakistan and around with our global friends. We love to promote tourism in Pakistan with the help

of these kind gestures from all of us. We would like to invite you and other friends as well to explore how beautiful our country, Pakistan is.

I always say that people spend so much money and travel abroad to see beautiful places, but they couldnā€™t see Pakistan first. I wish to organise LG Photowalk a and meet ups not only in Lahore but all around Pakistan to help improve the connectivity with other LGs as well.

Cheers!

@SimonAndrews , you are most welcome! It is always great to see Local Guides, relatively new to Local Guides and/or Connect, and what they get out of both.

I would suggest if you are looking for an environmental idea or two. Please check out @ErmesT 's Local Guides Clean The World - A Local Guides project and @IlankovanT 's Letā€™s Map Green project (planting trees / shrubs in your community). Both Powered Us by Local Guides initiatives are great reasons to have a meetup with fellow Local Guides and help beautify your community at the same time.

As for your high school student idea, one of the rules to officially be a Local Guide and j****oin the Local Guides Program is that one must be 18 years or older. Anyone can contribute to Google Maps, but you are not a Local Guide officially until you are at least 18 years old. Please read Program Rules for more details.

I suggest if you want to spend time informing young people about Google Maps and being a Local Guide visit your local universities and talk to a professor about giving a presentation.

Cheers,

Karen

Hi @KarenVChin

I m agree with you, but one thing I want to mention here. As you know I orginized many knowledge sharing meetups, in schools and for young people too. I taught young kids how to use Google maps. Because of Thier security, they should learn about use of Google maps, and you will amazed that mostly youngsters here can use Social media websites and many social networks, but they donā€™t know why the Google maps are in mobile phone?

I m agree they couldnā€™t be Local Guides untill they reach at the age of 18, but here the situation is that we have to teach young kids about the technology which is new for them. Specially Share Live Location in Google Maps is really important feature for kids.

So I would like to suggest

@SimonAndrews the same as Karen Said, the Local Guides Program is for the people who are 18 or above .

Shukriya

@KashifMisidia , I believe we are talking about the same thing here.

If you want to talk about Local Guides and the Program itself, the best audience to present is 18 years old or older. Any of us, including @SimonAndrews , can easily teach or demonstrate how to use Google Maps to anyone no matter their age.

I just want to point out in Simonā€™s comments to me he was thinking of presenting both Google Maps AND Local Guides to high school students as his next Local Guides meetup.

We get many under 18 years olds adding to Google Maps (which is perfectly ok) and wondering why they donā€™t receive any Local Guides perks. I would hate for these high school students, or even younger age students, to be disappointed.

Cheers,

Karen
