Hello Local Guides family! ![]()
Every year on September 27th, World Tourism Day is celebrated internationally. While I was familiar with the day, I truly realized how grandly it is celebrated when I co-hosted my very first meetup alongside The Cross Route Motorcycle and Travelers’ Club of Pakistan and the Pakistan Local Guides community.
Technically, this was my second meetup experience. My first was a wonderful gathering at Bagh-e-Ibn Qasim in Karachi, where I learned so much. Hosting this World Tourism Day meetup felt like a brilliant continuation of that learning journey!
A Warm Welcome & Inspiring Surroundings
The main event was organized by The Cross Route Motorcycle and Travelers’ Club of Pakistan, and hosted by @Khurramksk (Khurram Saeed Khan), Vice President of CRC and Sindh Coordinator for the club, at the rooftop of his residence in Karachi.
As a host of Local Guides Meetup, I tried to arrive early to welcome guests alongside the other organizers. From the moment I stepped in, the warm hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Khurram Saeed Khan stood out. The rooftop venue was beautifully arranged with comfortable seating and tasteful décor, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
The gathering brought together travelers of all age groups, bikers, travel bloggers, journalists, and Google Local Guides. It was wonderful to be surrounded by people sharing a genuine passion for exploring new places and promoting tourism in Pakistan.
Breaking Stereotypes: Inspiring Female Bikers
One of the most inspiring parts of the evening was meeting female bikers. Listening to their confident, adventurous journeys and seeing women actively breaking stereotypes and exploring different parts of the country left a lasting impression. Their stories proved that travel is truly empowering and that women can confidently thrive in spaces traditionally considered male-dominated.
Tech meets Travel: Google Maps & AI Insights
Aligning with the global theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” highly experienced Google Maps contributors @KashifMisidia and @DrfoodieOfficial (Rizwan Shah) were invited to the stage to share amazing and practical Google Maps features designed to make traveling easier and safer:
-
Group Location Sharing: Perfect for road trips involving multiple cars or bikes. Sharing live group locations from the start ensures everyone knows where others are, preventing anyone from lagging behind or getting lost. A live demo was also shown on how to use this fantastic feature effectively.
-
Offline Maps: Downloading maps before starting a journey helps navigate smoothly even when internet signals drop in remote areas.
-
Route Search Along the Way: Finding essential stops like tyre shops, fuel stations, or first aid locations directly along your active route.
-
Adding Missing Places to Help Future Travelers: How to use the “Add a Missing Place” option to map out essential spots like tyre shops, fuel stations, or rest places so that future travelers don’t face the same difficulties. Both contributors gave a live demonstration on how to easily add new businesses or tourist attractions to Google Maps.
-
Smart Trip Planning with Gemini: How Gemini can generate complete, detailed itineraries complete with distances, time estimates, and budget-friendly suggestions to save time and enhance travel planning.
Heartfelt Thanks & Community Connections
I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with fellow Local Guides, including @AleeAllana, @xuhairaly, @Drfoodieofficial (Rizwan Shah), @muhammad_ilyas, @aliather, and others. Everyone shared valuable ideas and practical travel tips, making the evening informative and fun. A huge thank you to all my friends who responded enthusiastically to my meetup call, traveled far, and participated so actively! Furthermore, the insights shared by prominent journalist and social figure from Karachi, Faizullah Khan, and Waqas Aurangzeb Khan were truly educational and inspiring.
Another memorable highlight was meeting Mrs. Khurram Saeed Khan. I deeply admired her aesthetic sense, literary talent, and passion for history. I was fascinated to learn that she ghostwrites her husband’s travelogues! She graciously presented me with a signed copy of their travelogue, Saiyahat Se Sayahi Tak, documenting a road journey from Karachi to Lahore, a truly meaningful keepsake.
A Transformative Experience
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my mentor and fellow Local Guide, Kashif Misidia, for his constant support and guidance. His mentorship motivated me to step up, learn, and contribute meaningfully. Hosting this meetup taught me things I might not have learned in a whole year, from event submission and management to putting together this very recap! It’s my first time doing this, and I am loving every bit of it because every step brings something new to learn.
The evening concluded with the presentation of flowers and certificates to distinguished guests, followed by a delicious dinner featuring chicken biryani, kheer, raita, and soft drinks, wrapped up with wonderful group photos.
For me, this was much more than a World Tourism Day celebration. It was an evening of connection, learning, and inspiration, reminding us all how travel brings communities together and deepens our appreciation for the beauty and diversity of Pakistan!
