Hello Local Guides Community,
My name is Sadaf Younus, and I am a resident of Karachi, Pakistan. I am a professional writer and editor specializing in eBooks. While writing is my profession, exploring the city and discovering new experiences is one of my favorite things to do in my free time.
This is my first post on this forum and a brand-new experience for me, but I hope that due to my consistency, you will now see me here on this wonderful platform often, because I truly love writing and creativity ![]()
There is something truly magical about places that carry a story. Whether it is a quiet historic landmark, a vibrant cultural site, a sprawling green park, or a cozy little café tucked away in a corner of Karachi, I am drawn to spaces with soul.
My weekends and free moments are usually spent wandering through museums and art galleries, catching stage plays, discovering new restaurants, or just soaking in the atmosphere of the city. But for me, the joy doesn’t stop at just experiencing these places firsthand. I love capturing those moments, putting together the little details, and sharing helpful insights that might make someone else’s journey a bit easier or more special.
This interest naturally brought me to the Local Guides community. I believe that a good review should go beyond simply saying whether you liked or disliked a place. Details about cleanliness,
accessibility, parking, facilities, atmosphere, family-friendliness, and the overall visitor experience can be extremely useful to someone planning a visit.
As a woman from Karachi, I would also like to contribute a perspective that is sometimes missing from online reviews. I want to document places from a woman’s point of view, including aspects such as safety, accessibility, cleanliness, parking, suitability for families and children, and how comfortable and welcoming a place feels for female visitors.
I was invited to a Google Local Guides meetup at the historic Jehangir Kothari Parade in Karachi by @KashifMisidia, a top contributor on Google maps from my city and a Connect Moderator. The meetup was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow contributors, learn more about creating helpful content for Google Maps, and explore one of Karachi’s most interesting historical and recreational spaces.
I also had the pleasure of meeting fellow Local Guides @Shaheen_Gul and the host or the meetup @Drfoodieofficial (Rizwan Shah). Although the gathering was small, it provided a friendly environment for meaningful conversation and the exchange of experiences about contributing to Google Maps and helping people make better decisions through reviews, photographs, and accurate information.
Kashif shared valuable guidance about the dos and don’ts of posting Google reviews. One of the most important points he emphasized was that quality is far more valuable than quantity. A useful review should be based on a genuine personal experience and should provide details that can actually help other people. He also discussed the importance of adding relevant, clear, and informative photographs rather than simply uploading pictures for the sake of increasing contributions.
The discussion also highlighted the need for more female contributors from Pakistan. There is a significant gap that needs to be filled, particularly when it comes to sharing women’s perspectives and experiences about public places, restaurants, businesses,
accessibility, and family-friendly locations. Pakistan has a large and talented female population, and greater participation from women can make the information available on Google Maps more balanced, diverse, and useful for everyone.
Kashif’s comments about the need for more female contributors from Pakistan therefore resonated with me. I hope to become a more active Local Guide and use my love for exploring the world to create useful, honest, and informative contributions that help both local residents and visitors discover the city.
During the meetup, I also got the opportunity to virtually witness the meetups happening simultaneously in Lahore and Islamabad. It was extremely impressive to see Local Guides in three cities across Pakistan hosting and successfully participating in events at the exact same time. I would like to heartily congratulate the hosts of all three meetups, Rizwan, @Sarbland, and @abbasiii on this success. ![]()
Our meetup location made the experience even more special. Jehangir Kothari Parade is one of Karachi’s notable historic landmarks and is located within the vast Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim in Clifton. The Parade dates back to the early twentieth century and was developed as part of Karachi’s seaside recreational landscape through the philanthropy of Jehangir Kothari, a prominent member of the city’s Parsi community. Its historic structure, terraces, and old-world atmosphere offer a reminder of Karachi’s architectural and cultural past.
Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim itself is one of the largest urban parks in Karachi. Located in Clifton and close to landmarks such as South City Hospital and Park Towers, it is easily accessible and offers a large open space for visitors to walk, relax, picnic, and spend time with family. Entry is free, and the park attracts families, couples, children, and other visitors looking for a break from the city’s busy environment.
Another important feature of the area is the historic Shree Ratneswar Mahadev Temple. During my visit, I saw several Hindu visitors coming to the temple . While much of the park was relatively calm and peaceful, the area around the temple had a distinctly different atmosphere, with more activity and hustle and bustle. The presence of the temple adds another layer to the historical and cultural diversity of the location.
Despite its size, history, and excellent location, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim has the potential to offer even more with improved maintenance, landscaping, shaded walkways, seating areas, and better
accessibility throughout the park. It is already a valuable public space, but greater care could make it an even better destination for Karachi’s families and visitors.
Today’s Local Guides marks the formal beginning of my contributions, and experiencing such a wonderful start, including meeting seasoned community members, feels like absolute good luck and a true blessing. It will undoubtedly help me improve my contributions, which will, in turn, prove immensely useful to anyone guided by them.
The Google Local Guides meetup was an enjoyable and informative experience. It combined learning, networking, and exploration while reminding us that every thoughtful review, useful photograph, and accurate contribution can help someone else. I am deeply grateful to Kashif for the invitation and for encouraging meaningful participation in the Google Maps community.
I also want to sincerely thank Rizwan, Shaheen, @Tech_Specialist (Farhan), @Bilal_Shaikh, @abdulmuqtaddir, @xuhairaly (Zuhair), @muhammad_ilyas, and @naeemsario from the bottom of my heart. Discussing things with all of you taught me so much that is new, and this entire wealth of information will prove tremendously beneficial for the betterment, empowerment, and welfare of people worldwide through my contributions.
