Hy Local Guides, ![]()
On January 29th (3 days after the Kochi Mega Meetup 2026), a dedicated group of volunteers gathered at Vypin Beach
to take a stand against plastic pollution. The morning air was fresh as @SonamW, @SarathUpendran and I arrived at 6:45 AM & was ready to begin our cleanup efforts.
Sustainable Approach
In line with our commitment to the environment, we ensured our cleanup was as eco-friendly
as possible. We used cloth gloves
and biodegradable bags to collect the waste, ensuring that our efforts to remove plastic didn’t contribute further to the problem.
Sustainable Community
What made this meetup truly special was the diverse support from the community. We were joined by a local student, a gentleman from the neighborhood & a doctor, all unified by the goal of protecting our environment. Seeing people from different walks of life come together shows the true positive impact and reach of the Local Guides initiative.
Our Impact
Working together, we systematically cleared a significant amount of waste from the sands.
Our collection included:
- Plastic waste
: Bottles, caps and bags. - Discarded fishing gear
: Tangled nets that pose a threat to marine life
. - Environmental hazards
: Pieces of thermocol and other non-biodegradable materials.
@SonamW captured the energy of the morning and the progress we made in a fantastic YouTube Short.
You can watch the highlights of our drive here: Beach Clean-up Drive.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. Small actions like these are the first steps toward a more sustainable and inclusive future for our beaches.
Special thanks to @SharmaK for Initiating this sustainable approach remotely.
