Hy Local Guides,
Yesterday (22nd December), the Women’s Guide Collective Meet-up took place at Eve’s Coffee. Apart from the last meet-up at Eve’s, we had new local guides and local business owners/work in related businesses. I want to Thank Jessa and @Betajayakumar for giving me space for the talk and inviting other people from the community. Also wanted to thank @SarathUpendran and @Gouri.PS who travelled 1 or 2 hrs to join this meetup from our Connect Community.
Local Guides who Joined the meetup
What happened at the meetup
I took following topics
- What are new features in Google Maps?
- What is the Local Guide Program, how can you join and how to better contribute?
- What is Google business and how can effectively update features to help customers?
- How to claim your business in Maps?
- How we as a local guide helps women owned local businesses and LGBTQ+ friendly businesses?
- Importance of Accessibility features to include in your contributions.
After the presentation, we had a talk section for business owners/work in a business to tell how Google Maps helps them and their Businesses.
Bottom right, Dr Awungshi Philamazan who works in “Where in Trivandrum” , a NGO which shows attractions, food related contents and do events in Trivandrum. She is also a level 6 local guide and contributes wonderfully and effectively. I suggested to her that even if “where in Trivandrum” doesn’t have a physical store, that business can be opened in Maps and they are looking forward to it
From top right, Prabin who is one of the owners of Kappiness Mental health cafe and Therapeutic Centre. You can know more about that business in this post. He told us that Maps helps them to know and give ideas of community spaces.
From Top left, Betajayakumar told us how maps help them when they created their business. He also pointed out that we should also help local businesses around us .
From right to left: Betajayakumar, Akhil, Sarath, Prabin, Anita, Aleena, Gouri, Awungshi Philamazan and Prakash
I am happy to say that this meetup may have created this women local guide community and new line of friendship through the local guide program
Food was there for all attendees of this meetup with sandwich and nachos & dipping sauce.
I thank every local guide and business owners/work in a business who attended this meetup. Special thanks to @TravellerG for helping to conduct this meetup. Let’s welcome new local guides to our community!
