Kappiness Mental Health Cafe - India's first Mental Health Cafe

Hy Local Guides,

Before I start, I would like to tell you that there’s a difference between a Coffee shop and a Cafe, there is also a misunderstanding of What a Cafe is. Cafe can be a place where you can relax or gather with your community or have a cup of coffee or tea. Cafes are not just a place for food or drinks. Cafes are a space for the community to gather and talk/do their activities. There’s so many cafes like Music cafe, Dance cafe, Mental health cafe, Pets cafe, etc… which may not offer food or drinks.

In this post, I will be talking about Kappiness Mental health cafe and Therapeutic Centre in Trivandrum, Kerala. This cafe and centre is under NADI foundation, an NGO organisation working in the field of Mental health, youth development and tribal education. KMHTC is the first Initiative in India to be named and registered under the Mental health cafe and Therapeutic Centre. They started in 2021 with Founder and Co-Founder as Prabin, Sneha and Jickson. I like to introduce @Hafeel who is in their team and also a local guide.

They have an outdoor cafe seating where we can talk or take a session/event or have a cup of coffee.

They also have beautiful rooms for therapeutic sessions

Also have a small cottage built with mud where we can talk privately or have a session.

They have placed benches in each corner so that we can relax and have a talk.

This cafe is also Accessible LGBTQ+ friendly business (women owned).

There’s a lot of Mental health cafes around India like in Pune, Punjab, Hyderabad, etc. Please comment down below if there’s one in your city.

Thanks Sarath for your valuable comment and to remind me to add the place of the cafe. There’s no exact cafes for that in kollam but you can find community spaces in Kollam (they won’t serve any foods/drinks).

@Rahul001

Yes, it’s a need of time nowadays for many, especially for IT backgrounds or folks with too much work pressure.

I heard that we also have one in our city, Pune, Cafe Serenity. I will check it personally.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Cheers!
