The 41st accessibility meetup in Pune was rescheduled to Jan 12, 2023, from an earlier date as part of the celebration of the 8th anniversary of LG Connect organized by the enthusiastic and energetic Guiding Stars @NareshDarji and @KashifMisidia Bhai.
I visited the Vascon Eco Towers on Pashan-Baner Link Road in Pune.
Sunil and Satish from the neighborhood accompanied me but they are not local guides, though they use Google Maps extensively.
The following were checked.
- The accessibility of the main entrance.
- The availability of ramps at the entrance.
- The accessibility of the parking space.
- The accessibility of the elevators.
The main entrance of the tower complex is accessible from the road level.
The front side shops in the Vascon Eco Towers are accessible and have accessibility features like steel railings but no ramp so they are not accessible to people using a wheelchair.
HereтАЩs the view from the inside the premises.
The common parking is accessible as well.
One of the entrances on the front side has no ramps and no railings.
The towers have a huge ramp leading the basement.
The entrance from the backside of the towers is also not accessible for a wheelchair. It does not have a ramp nor has any railings.
The elevator lobby is fortunately accessible.
The elevators at the ground level and at the basement level are accessible.
They have handrails, are leveled with the floor outside and the buttons in the elevators have braille icons engraved.
HereтАЩs the banner of the meetup though I chose to use the entrance to the Vason Eco Towers as the profile picture for this post.
Conclusion
The Vascon Eco Towers in Pune are fully geared towards embracing the differently abled and though there were a few discontinuities, helpful people were always available nearby to ease the experience of the differently abled.
This meetup was conducted as part of the Accessibility for All movement.
