Hello LGs,
The Pune General Post Office, famously known as G.P.O., Pune, has been standing close to the railway station for more than a hundred years.
Not as an exhibit in a museum but as a pulsating center of communication. It was built in the British period, and its solid stone facade, high arches, and spacious interiors speak of durability and civic importance. This was where news, money orders, and life-changing letters moved in and out of Pune before the days of emails and instant messaging.
My generation has a long-time association with the post office and still remembers the time when our school, college, and/or university results were sent by post. We used to meet the post office close to our houses and look out for the postman and bribing him to get it first hand, before our parents could check it! 
The GPO has been a witness to many defining moments, from wartime correspondence in the World Wars to the rise of inland letters and telegrams in post-independence India. One of the most charming details is the old red letterbox that still works on the premises, a rare living relic that still serves its original purpose. They also have a special section where they collect old stamps and sell them to the public. The philately counters here have been a bridge between generations of collectors and the postal history of India, with vintage stamps and commemorative issues being a treasure trove for enthusiasts.
What makes the Pune GPO special is its continuity. Still alive and kicking with rapid digital change, mixing heritage with daily use, proof that some institutions change without losing their soul.
I visited the place but didn’t make any purchases, so I haven’t posted the review.

Very true, @NareshDarji bhai. These were landmarks of almost all the cities, towns, and villages; suddenly they disappeared.
However, they are now evolving and redressing themselves in order to look more like Gen Z. Let’s catch it sometime as well.

Yes, it’s very nostalgic, @PrasadVR. I remember many of my friends used to come up with their own collections of postcards and stamps from different countries worldwide. That time, it was as famous as coin collecting.

Thanks for reminding me nostalgia of postcard in 15 paise in my school life I have used it a lot.quite few inland also used however Aerogram I haven’t used.
I used to have the good stamp collection too till college life.
Post that mobile came and all vanished.

I used the post office and its services a lot in high school, from 1985-90.
I think the Zero Stone is just outside the Pune GPO? @AjitThite
I have yet to explore the building inside

Gut, dass die Post bei euch noch ihre Aufgaben wahrnimmt. Bei uns sind die meist wunderschönen Postgebäude in anderen Besitz übergegangen. Diese Aufgaben der Post sind durch Brief- und Paketkästen ersetzt.
Besonders gefallen hat mir euer roter Briefkasten mit Zylinder.

It is not yet privatized here, @Annaelisa, but actually they are revamping the premises and maintaining the heritage buildings in most of the old cities of British eras.
That box is a perfect monument to that era, and it is still functional.
