Problem in writing Reviews on Google Maps by Android phone.

Hi there! I’m still a bit new here in the Local Guides Connect community and I’d like to share my workaround for your concerns. I usually construct my sentences in software or apps like Keep Notes, Notepad, WordPad, and Evernote (personal preference), then I’d just copy-paste my content where necessary. If cursor-jumping still occurs, it wouldn’t be a bother anymore because you’re done typing already.

Hope this helps!

@PatrickUnson yes I also usually do like this way but the problem is when you have to upload photo, the cursor jumps somewhere and need to search. And another, when you have to highlight, again I do need to pull down the cursor or need to search it. And its really being a headache for me. Sometimes its just lost…

I also get that problem using my phone, but when using a laptop it doesnot act like that.

I can only think of process of elimination. Check if behavior is the same in different apps, then on different phones if you have access. Like @JacintaN , you can try smartphone vs laptop.

Other possible factors (just guessing, really):

Keyboard app (including Prediction, Suggestions, and Spell-Check)

App Update (bug troubleshooting might still be in the works for specific phone models)

Phone compatibility

@VasT apparently still many users are facing this cursor jumping issue when reviewing. I will get them to report back here about what phone and Android &Maps version

Yes this issue is there since almost a month now and till date it’s not solved yet. Hopefully Google Maps will do something and solve this problem.

Hey there @StephenAbraham and @VasT

Each time I do a long review I check if it is still happening. I wrote one this morning and unfortunately it’s still there.

It doesn’t seem to happen if I’m typing on the Connect Forum via my phone but it does happen in the Contribute section on Maps.

Mentioned before but will do a refresher: I’m using a Huawei P20, model number EML-L09 if that helps. EMUI and Android version 8.1.0

:metal:

Finally, some good news: we got a mail from Google help acknowledging the issue, promising to look into the matter and asking for our understanding and patience…

I have written a review after reading your post. I haven’t come across any such error as shown by you in the video.

My phone is on the latest version of Google maps. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Hey @curreir

That’s fantastic news, hoping they can sort it out but also hope the auto save function will stay as I think its a great feature. Looking forward to the outcome, until then I will just keep writing reviews with one or two letters before my cursor, it works like a charm.

Hi @AdriansyahPutera ,

Thanks for flagging this issue. We are aware of it and we are investigating it. We’ll let you know when we have an update.

Meanwhile, I’ll merge your post to the thread Problem in writing Reviews on Google Maps by Android phone where other Local Guides have shared that they experience the same issue.

Are you guys still experiencing the issue? It works well with my phone. I have written 3 reviews today without any problem.

Hi @JavieraAu I can agree with @AdriansyahPutera I did a forced Google maps update on my Android phone and after testing it a few times in the reviews section I can confirm no more wondering cursor on my side.

I just notice that there is a long grey stripe that runs down the right side of the screen during the save but is only visible for a second, I can live with that.

GENIUS!!! Yipppeeee its fixed

Yes - in order to avoid jumping of the cursor I also do the same way - typing the text in Google translate (easily accessible for me) copy and paste.
Most of the time I work on my desktop -

I get a similar problem writing reviews in my desktop but the other way.

If I want to insert a word only the first letter sets in the later letters follow at the end.

Something like this:

text in Gtranslateoogle

for text in Google translate

when the word Google is inserted !
I thought it my system problem and do not know anyone else face such jumping at the end of text on insertion.

Hi @KashifMisidia and fellow Guides

Just to let you know, it seems the problem has been fixed :slightly_smiling_face:

At least, it is on my side.

@Bren-frm-SA has also said his is sorted.

We both use Huawei P20’s.

Hi @StephenAbraham ,

There’s been a recent update on Google Maps that resolved the issue. Please, check the last update of Google Maps. If the issue persists, you can tag me here. The version must be 10.16 and above.

Hi @Dhanasekaran_Muthu ,

Could you please inform me what browser do you use? However, I recommend you to clear your cache and cookies and try once again to leave a review on Google Maps but this time without using Google Translate. Please let me know if the issue still persists.

P.S.: @LeeBee-SA and @Bren-frm-SA , I’m really happy to hear that this issue is resolved for you.

I always use Google’s Chrome in my Desktop - Others who use rarely, open in Internet Explorer which is not my default browser.

I use of course Crome in my Android Mobile Phone too. I do not get the jumping of cursor in my Mobile phone (Nokia 6.1 Plus)

Clearing cookies from my Desktop will clear my saved information too.

I need to go to settings and find option for clearing the cookies from specific sites.

I rarely edit my text by way of inserting the missing words. Moreover, I feel it is not a serious problem for me.

May be I sort it out by clearing cookies.

Thank you very much for instant response that may also be useful for other LGs too.
