Hi @VasT ,
And I m still facing the issue of jumping cursor.
Hi there @VasT
Thanks for getting back to us.
I’ve got the Huawei P20, Android version 8.1.0 according to my phone specs.
Hi @VasT ,
I am still having the problem on 2 devices:
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T815Y) running Android 7.0 (baseband T815YDVU2CRC1)
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime (SM-G610Y) running Android 7.0 (baseband G610YZTU2BRJ3)
Thanks, Simon
Hi VasT
I haven’t had a chance to check if its resolved on my phone a Huawei P20 Lite with Android 8.0, I should be able to test later on during daylight and will double check for play store updates just, will gladly send an update.
@LeeBee-SA what are the odds that you should have a P20 as well, lol
Hey there @VasT
Just wanted to let you know it’s still happening with my phone today
Hahaha @Bren-frm-SA well would ya look at that? Great mind and all that.
Please, is anybody working on this problem? Writing reviews is a torture now…
Hi VasT
Wish I could give you good news but I still have the same issue, was thinking of installing Google maps go directions to see if it might be an alternate solution, but I don’t know if you can write reviews etc. on that app.
I have this same problem. It used to work, but for the last two versions of maps had this problem.
i have this problem even when I don’t stop writing.
Hii today again I am facing g the same issue…
Cursor comes to starting point of it’s own.
Pls rectify this problem
Regards!
Yes. I am also having the similar Problem with my Nokia 6.1 Android Phone. I Though it is unique in Nokia as my previous phones were OK.
Now I understood that the issue is not with my phone.
I use Google Indic Keyboard .
If I happen to type longer reviews it is very difficult as the work is duplicated or corrupted with absurd meaning if I do not notice.
I open Google Translate App, type the message there, copy and paste it to appropriate place in Google Maps.
I have an alternative option. Simply ignore instant post of review.
Come home to work on Desktop
Most of us have this problem of jumping cursor to the initial position!
Till the issue is totally resolved I am using the Google Translate App or Text file to type the message copy & paste it to review field in Google Maps - alternatively I make it in Desktop.
Thank you very much for the copy and paste idea, it never had occurred to me!
I am waiting to see, how long will it take to get an answer from the Google help people.
Besides here, I have wrote about this issue in the Google Maps Help forum.
Hi friends
Just to update you the jumping cursor is also still happening on my side to date.
Same issue with the jumping cursor. If I had to guess, I would say that when it autosave, it does not position the text to the bottom. Makes it almost impossible to write a review. Samsung S7, android 8.0.0, maps 10.16.1
@KashifMisidia thank you for sharing the post. I am also feeling the same problems but not in Google map, it is on the Connect Live post.
Update:
I found out another solution to our problem, suggested by an anonymous user in the Google Maps Forum. It is simple and effective :
As soon as the issue presents itself, type a random character and continue with the rest of your review before this character. I tried it and it works.
I’ve been experiencing a very annoying issue, when I’m writing a review the cursor goes back to the first character all the time, some times every 2 or 3 words I type it goes back to that spot, that’s really annoying specially when doing a detailed review. I wrote to Google a couple times but so far no answer or solution. Anybody experiencing the same issue or knows how to fix it? Thank you for any help, Greetings to all!!
Hi @Cesarion , do you have the same issue on your mobile and desktop version? Currently I’m not having this issue, but I used to experience the same problem for several times. First time I had the issue on my mobile (but no problem on my desktop), I just cleared the GM caches and restarted the GM app. It worked. But the second time I had the same problem this method didn’t fix the problem until I updated the Gboard app. I suggest you try the both method, clear the cache - update the Gboard and GM app - restart the GM app. Let’s see if that works.
By the way, about 4 days ago I had the typing issue when I needed to edit category of a place, but without doing anything now it’s fixed by itself.
On all three platforms I often experience that the cursor jumps unwantedly to the end of the line when I try to insert a word in the middle of the name of a pin. I then have to move the cursor back to the middle of the line where I want the next letter. And this I need to do for each and every character. It is a pain.
