What are the points for? Do they just build up for badges or how are they used?
I’ve been reviewing for awhile now and never knew I got points for doing so.

Yes the points are just for badges and indications that you are contributing to improve the maps. Nothing more and I suppose that’s fair enough.

Here on connect we discuss topics like Travel , Photography , Food and Drinks ,. We also organize Meet-ups with other fellow local guides closest to us in our geographical location. Most of our activities are channelled around improving Google.

This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here.
Regarding your question, you can find an answer directly in Google Maps: Open your profile and tap on the number showing the contributions. A page will open. On mobile tap on “Learn More”; on desktop click on “Learn More about Points”
You will be directed to the page Points, levels, and badging where you will find a detailed explanation about what the points are and how to get them by contributing in Google Maps.
In any case Points and badges are just an acknowledgement of your contributions, you cannot use them to buy something and you can’t exchange them.
But points and levels can help you to “Get recognized”
