tell me more about this gate, I want to know the story of this monument.
Hi, @johann_78
The water supply of Plovdiv has been established since Roman times, when Trimontium has a modern water supply system. The Romans made the Kaynitsite water catchment in the town of Kuklen and the karst springs in the village of Markovo (near Plovdiv). The two water pipes were connected to Komatevo and from there to Plovdiv the water was taken with Aquaduct. During the Ottoman rule, the Roman water pipeline was completely destroyed. A small part is preserved on the “Komatev knot” between the Smirnenski district and the South district in the city. The entire water supply line is 22 km long.

Hi @PoliMC
Thanks for the interest and the information.
I live in Plovdiv. Today, for the first time, I decided to see how Local Guides work
and many things are still unclear to me.
I’ll upload more pictures from Plovdiv - the oldest inhabited city in Bulgaria.
But it is also a great city to live and I will be glad if my pictures inspire more people to visit it ![]()
How do I know if my post is public?
Wow! Beautiful pictures, I would love to visit Plovdiv! Again ![]()
