"Pedaling Towards a Greener Future: Celebrating World Bicycle Day 2025”

Hello dear local guides,
Today is World Bicycle Day, celebrated annually on June 3rd, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of cycling and promoting its use as a mode of transportation and recreation. It is a day to recognize the bicycle’s role in fostering sustainable development, improving health, and supporting a more environmentally friendly world.

This day encourages people to ride their bikes, learn about the history of cycling, and participate in cycling events. It also serves as a platform to advocate for better cycling infrastructure—such as bike lanes and parking facilities—to make biking safer and more accessible.

Beyond transportation, World Bicycle Day emphasizes the health benefits of regular exercise, including both physical and mental well-being. It also highlights the bicycle’s potential to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and contribute to a more sustainable future.

My Journey with Bicycles:
I have been involved in cycling since childhood. I learned to ride a bicycle when I was in Class 3, and I’ve never stopped since. I received my first bicycle as a gift, probably in 2013, when I was in Class 7. However, my cycling journey truly restarted in 2017 when I bought a new bicycle. From then on, I began exploring different parts of the country during office holidays.

With or without a bicycle, I’m traveling to 39 districts out of 64 in my country. In the future, I plan to complete the rest of the country by bicycle, and then I’ll travel abroad by bicycle. My bucket list includes Sri Lanka, India, Cambodia, and more.
So far, according to my recorded data, I’ve cycled a total of 21430 kilometers (strava profile link). I’ve biked through mountains, along the sea, and into remote areas. I also commute regularly to and from my office by bicycle.

My Inspiration:
My grandfather is my greatest inspiration for cycling. He was a teacher and used a bicycle for daily commuting. He passed away at the age of 70, without ever suffering from major health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, or similar conditions. He often cycled both short and long distances, and his healthy lifestyle has deeply inspired me. I’ve decided to continue cycling for the rest of my life, just like he did.

How I Contribute to Google Maps Through Cycling:
Whenever I plan a trip to a new place, I use Google Maps to understand the location better. I study the satellite view and plan my route accordingly. On every trip, I contribute by adding pictures of landmarks and businesses, posting reviews, editing existing information, and removing spam. These contributions have become an essential part of my cycling adventures.

  • My other cycling related all post are here: Check all

For example, on my last bike packing trip, which lasted 4 days, I made the following contributions on Google Maps:

  • Total distance cycled: 369.6 km
  • Districts visited: 4
  • Places added: 6
  • Places edited: 27
  • Spam removed: 149
  • Reviews written: 20
  • Photos added: 124 photos across 82 different places

What I’ve Learned from World Bicycle Day:
Cycling is a clean and accessible mode of transportation that helps keep our environment pollution-free. It’s a sustainable option that’s available in most parts of the world.

If you’re not cycling yet, start today—or as soon as possible. It keeps you healthy, active, and environmentally conscious.

I agree that cycling is a light, fun and healthy sport. I also like cycling. With a mountain bike that I often ride on paved roads. It’s a bit heavy to pedal, but for me it’s fun. happy World Bycycle Day 2025 @Soykot_azam

Happy World Bicycle Day…:handshake::bouquet:
