For a couple of weeks now, I have noticed that our Maps profiles have started opening our detailed Maps contribution pages by default. At first, I thought it was a bug, but it seems to stick. Here is an example.
I noticed this LG was posting a lot of unrelated photos at places in my area, so I opened his profile for a check.
First, the profile opens as expected, showing his latest photos like this:
I notice this few days ago . It work both on desktop and also from mobile.
I’d love if ..
people start to draw more attention to the details. When you read some reply you can easily understand if they have looked at the “contributions” and also to detailed info.
BTW , Incident report means..? A new voice but not yet updated into the “help”
@MortenCopenhagen I don’t know of or about the Local Guide posting a lot of unrelated photos at places in your area, however the flipping to the detailed contributions popup is a function of the T100 Satellite Scout that you may have installed.
@MarcoDavoli I also didn’t originally understand what you meant by incident report and the “help” so thank you for explainingthis.
At the bottom of “My contribution” I saw a new voice “Incident reports”
I am not able to find any info about it. 'm sure someone has already written about it.
I just saw this few lines but… not sure.
“Because Google Maps has been rolling out crowdsourced driving reporting features similar to Waze (allowing users to flag road events directly from the app interface), this tab acts as a personal history log of the specific hazards, delays, or disruptions you have reported on the road.”
I noticed this too, but only when opening an incognito Chrome session and enter the URL of a Maps profile (mine or others). Then it automatically switches from photos to reviews and opens the contributions page.
It consistently happens for incognito, but so far, never when I was logged into Google, even when showing others’ profile page.
I agree, very likely, it is caused by T100 extension, since that also requires the profile shown in an incognito session.
BTW, taking about incognito, I just learned from @ErmesT in another post, to check for hidden contributions, on desktop we no longer need another person’s profile or incognito (with its limits). Instead, in the second session we select “View your public profile”:
Incognito Is totally useless, due to the recent limitations (for privacy concerns?) @WilfriedB
View the public profile has always been the solution proposed by Google to check our visible contributions, but in the past it was not working properly, and it was displaying also some hidden contributions (confirmed by several tests made years ago).
So I totally abandoned it, till last week.
With a new test it appeared to work correctly, at least on my side, that’s why I suggested it.
But maybe we need some additional tests, @MortenCopenhagen
A first test did work perfectly for me @ErmesT. Getting rid of the need for the incognito windows makes it much easier and has the potential of creating an automated solution to discover hidden contributions.
